  why 'appostates' where so adament to out the society.

  you would hear about them picketing assemblies and dc's.

  when i got to bethel they would tell newb's about how the apostates had an annual march on bethel.

  I think that if they actually thought that - they would be half way to being free. The trouble is they really do believe on the whole that the rest of the world is evil and all worldly people are bad association spoiling useful habits. I believed it right up until when I left home and worldly people took me under their wing -

  You made a very good point. I think a major factor in JWs seeing all worldly people as wicked is that they see all worldly people through the lense of the media. What do newspapers and news outlets show other than the darkest aspects of humanity? (homicides, gang violence, car bombings, etc.) Many Witnesses never see all of the "worldly" people who are very peaceful, loving, caring, compassionate people.

  Favorite Band as a teenager........

  this band can be a local, main stream etc..... my favorite local band was little blue crunchy things, they were from milwaukee, wi.

  i've gotten lot's of pm's asking me about the proccess that i use to create my glass.... it's kinda weird to walk into my studio and check out where i left off 5 months ago.... instead of asking me what each word means, just google it!...

  Noah's rectangular Ark

  something from when i was younger; i always was forced to believe that noahs ark was rectangular, since it was in the bible stories and other publications that way.

  but in any other religious books the ark always had at least a bit of a curved stern and a v or u shaped hull.

  a v or u shaped hull with ribs is far stronger, timber efficient, hydrodynamic and can take a few hits.

  Oliver Stone's New Film: World Trade Center

  tonight, i got to attend a sneak preview of the movie world trade center.

  i thought that it was an excellent movie.

  i highly recommend that everyone go see it.

  Yes, Nicolas Cage didn't handle the NY accent very well. It seemed as though he was trying to fake the accent much harder in certain lines than in others. But overall, I thought he did a good job.

  Arthur, did Stone sensationalize this in any manner? ; How did it measure up to United 93, as far as respect for the victims?

  I'm not sure what you mean by sensationalize it. I did think that Stone did a really good job in highlighting the individuals who were involved. It definitely did just as good of a job in paying honor to the victims as United 93, maybe even better.

  Question about shunning from someone who has never been a JW....

  i wondered, since the jws claim that jesus is their teacher, what evidence do they have of jesus shunning "bad associations"?

  it seems to me, from reading the bible, that the religious people of his day really gave him a hard time, because he actually spent the majority of his time with "bad associates", rather than shunning them.

  thomas, though he followed jesus, wasn't totally convinced.

  The rationale for shunning comes from the writings of the Apostle Paul. It was stated that an unrepetent sinner should be removed from the congregation, and that Christians should "not even eat with such a man".

  The Gospel accounts show that Jesus approached sinners in an attempt to draw them to him and to move them to repent. Jesus focussed more on the consequences that an unrepentent sinner would face in the eyes of God, instead of focussing on congregational procedures. There are many congregational matters that Jesus never went into detail about. Paul, later went into detail on several matters which Jesus had not mentioned. Since JWs beleive that the Apostle Paul was inspired, they take his statements about such matters very seriously.

  If you ask a JW about this, they may highlight the fact that Jesus also never mentions homosexuality. But, sincle the Hebrew Sciptures and the Apostle Paul does, Christians must follow such counsel.

  Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?

  i've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.

  i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.

  personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

  Absolutely. I was heavily medicated for a long time, and even the medications didn't help. I was still suicidal and came very close to actually doing it. I was hospitalized on numerous occasions.

  The biggest factor was that no matter how hard I worked for Jehovah, it was never enough. The whole "salvation through works" mentality was literaly killing me. When I decided to quit going to meetings and decided to "fade out", my mental health began to improve quickly.

  Tonight, I got to attend a Sneak Preview of the movie World Trade Center. I thought that it was an excellent movie. I highly recommend that everyone go see it.

  Oliver Stone did an excellent job directing this film, which was based on the true story of New York City Port Authority cop John McLoughlin (played by Nicolas Cage). The movie focussed on several NYPD officers who raced into the WTC to rescue people; only to get trapped themselves. This film shows the hell that the cops and firefighters went through. The film also has a strong spiritual element as it shows how a guy who was an ex-Marine was in church praying when he was moved to go join the rescue operations against the advice of others. This guy later became a key figure in the rescue operation involving McLoughlin.

  I think that it's actually a great movie for the whole family to go see together (although it's probably not appropriate for small children). The movie highlights how the families of those cops and firefighters were affected, as well as how they pulled together to help each other. I have to admit that like most typical guys, I don't get teary-eyed for movies. But this movie was different. By the end of the movie, I was in tears, as were many other men that I saw after the movie. I think that it's definitely one of Oliver Stone's best films. Here's a link for the movie's website:

  if you thought you had it bad, here is a cult, that said out in the open at one point that sex should be normalized for children in such a way, that one could participate children in sex and there was nothing wrong with it!

  There are some excellent organizations that educate the public, provide discussion forums, and direct people to support groups for cult recovery. Probably the best one that I have seen is Fact Net. They provide many resources for education and recovery. Here is their link:
