SOoooo many are leaving the forum.
by AK - Jeff init is sad - but it is growth for them too.
forums like this do seem to feed the obsession that we are trying to shed, don't they?
i have spent less time here over the past few months.

As one of the youngest members of this board, I can say that so far, it is a growing experience for me. This is because in a forum like this, I must always be willing to take criticism when expressing views and opinions. It teaches me not to take myself so damn seriously. I also better make sure that I have my facts straight, or else someone will definitely let me know that I am in the wrong. I think that this board (with so many differing points of view and personalities) provides one with the perfect opportunity to sort out their thoughts, beliefs, and also to have the great experience of encouraging others who have gone through (and continue to) the trials that I have. At this point, I definitely plan on sticking around for awhile.

What little things get you upset?
by JH ini get upset very fast, if a product i use since years gets discontinued.
gee, if the weatherman says it's 75 degrees outside and i know it's 80, i'll phone him and tell him to get a better thermometer or put glasses on.
often i feel like writting to the mayor and ask him what is he waiting for to pave the streets of the whole city.

1) Walking into the kitchen with only my socks on, and stepping on a wet spot.
2) Being in a public restroom, trying to get toilet paper, but the roll is rolled so tight, that I have to tear off one square at a time.
3) Infomercials that tell me how using their $30.00 piece of exercise equipment 10 minutes a day will give me a body like Lance Armstrong.
4) Dropping quarters down under my car seat, and I can't reach them.
5) At the Watchtower study; everytime someone would start off their comment by saying: "Well, the paragraph brings out . . . . . ."
6) Trying to open a can of soup with the can opener, and the lid winds up falling down inside the can of soup, and I have to dig it out with a knife.

I have just spoken on the phone to a close friend who works in the Service Department in Brooklyn about this anouncement.
He has informed me that there is indeed a shocking anouncement that will be delivered after one of the Sunday talks. He said that it will disturb many. The announcement will be this:
From now on, the white signs that they use at Conventions that read "Please Keep Moving" will be printed in recycled paper only, and that they will only purchase potted plants that have been treated with organic pesticides.

Making real friends
by choosing life ini have been away from the meetings for about a year now.
i recently attended a funeral and the witnesses mostly avoided me even though i am not disfellowshipped.
my problem is i need to replace my old friends because they look at me with such suspicion now.. i never had trouble making friends before i was a witness, but that was 30 years ago.

This is something that you will need to exercise great patience in. It's going to take some time. A good starting point might be to get involved in some kind of charity group or function that meets regularly. ( Your local city hall or chamber of commerce should have some information along these lines. ) The reason why I bring up a charity or humanitarian organization is that you will probably find more kind hearted and compassionate people in a setting like that.
You need to take into consideration what kind of personality you have. If you are an introvert, you might want to start off by building one or two close friendships first, and then slowly branch out from there. I think that it's critical to have at least one close friend who knows all about you so that they can regularly give you feed-back, advice, and someone who is willing to give you honest appraisal. Sometimes, trying to quickly build a large network of friends can be taxing and discouraging if you are introverted.
The most important thing is to be compassionate to yourself. Instead of focussing on your social deficiencies, regularly give yourself credit for the progress that you are making. Remember to be patient. Building new social networks and friendships takes time. It will seem discouraging at times, but just keep at it.
