"That's right brothers and sisters, step right up and grab a cup. Don't look at it, or smell it. Avoid any murmuring or independent spirit. Be willing to obey the spirit-directed organization, and drink what has been lovingly provided to you by the Slave Class . . . . that's it, drink up."

If there was no religion
by KW13 in.
i was thinking today, imagine if people had their faiths and opinions but no actual religion backing them up.. i believe that it would help stop cults e.t.c making money off people and controlling peoples lives and would help make the world a lot more peaceful.. i've yet to come across a religion that doesn't have problems or in some way is hypocritical.. what do you think?

I'm glad they finally caught this flap-jack. Isn't it ironic that he was arrested in Las Vegas aka "sin city"?

Why is the WTBTS so against mental health professional treatment?
by Gill infollowing on from sandy's thread on her brother's pt, i wondered exactly why does the wtbts take such an opposing stand to professional mental health treatment?

In the area where I lived, I never heard anyone discourage psychiatric treatement. I think this is because there were so many Witnesses on Prozac and Paxil.
But, I do remember very distictly the attitude toward "worldly" therapists and psychologists. I heard it said over and over again that "worldly" psychologists would make us begin to believe that the "truth" was too restrictive, too burdensome, and unfulfilling. I remember thinking: "Hell, I don't need a psychologist to tell me that; I already know that!"
I remember at one Circuit Assembly, a speaker started taking jabs at Dr. Phil; suggesting that Dr. Phil encourages youths to engage in unscriptural behaviors. I sat there thinking: "Oh yes, encourging kids to play softball instead of smoking pot, really unscriptural! Why don't you try watching his show and becoming better informed before you go up on stage and make a total ass crevice out of yourself."

How up are you on the music and musical artist, hot today?
by free2beme inas i get older, i understand more the generation gap we always remembered being mentioned with our parents.
i always thought i was on top of the music scene, as i used to run a music and video store in the late 80's.
i thought it kept me on a path, that would keep me in the know of what was hot and what was not.

I'd rather listen to Michael Savage on ANY subject than my husband on *that* one. And thats saying something
Wow, that is saying something. I think I would rather French kiss Steven Hawking than to listen to Micheal Savage. But then again, that's saying something too, isn't it?

Yeah, unfortunately, I'm beginning to realize that I am not up with many of the modern artists. I grew up listening to groups like The Smiths, The Cure, Erasure, and The Pet Shop Boys. Although, I do really like a lot of the modern bands. I still feel old when I bring up Robert Smith or Morrisey, and a sixteen year-old kid has no idea what I'm talking about.

Did anyone just get tired?
by woodmonkey induring my days as a witness, which was only about 10 years ending circa 1981, most of my memories revolve around how totally exhausted i always felt.
toward the last, i was dragging my family out to the five meetings a week and working fulltime and getting my quota of publisher hours on the little sheet every month, even doing the temporary pioneering bit now and again.
when i had the ministry school, i even worked a four day week to be able to give every talk on the program in case someone did not show up, which frequently happened in our little congregation west of fort worth, tx.

I used to wonder why other dubs would say, "No one's home anymore because Satan's keeping them busy so they will not hear the "Truth" while they themselves were not at home either.
Good point honesty. Perhaps the GB is keeping the Dubs so busy so thay they won't discover the truth about the "Truth".

Funniest JW joke on TV
by brianhenke inwhat is the funniest jw joke you saw on tv?.
many years ago, gary burbank had a tv special here in cincinnati in which a number of jw jokes were made (like teenage mutant nin jehovah's witnesses).. and there was this funny moment from the weakest link.
it wasn't supposed to be a joke, but it sure is funny:.

The funniest scene that I ever saw was from the movie: Airplane. There is a scene where actor Robert Stack is walking into the airport; when a JW walks up to him and tries to hand him a tract. Robert Stack all of the sudden busts out in an elaborate kung-fu move; where he picks the guy up, throws him over his shoulder, and totally kicks his ass. It's a real hoot.

No Trespassing Signs at KHs?
by Saoirse ini drove by a local kingdom hall today and noticed that they had put up 3 large "private property/no trespassing" signs and 2 "this area under security surveillance" signs.
i haven't heard any reports of vandalism or break-ins so i'm curious as to why they would put up signs like that.
why bother going door to door if the general public isn't allowed to enter the kh?

In some areas, it has to do with skateboarders, and teenagers who want an empty area to goof off. Large, open parking lots are a nice temptation to many skateboarders who have no other areas to ride. I have heard from various Witnesses that several congregations in California have gotten sued because of children who have been injured while skateboarding and roller-blading in their parking lots. This explains why more and more KHs are installing iron-rod fences and gates.

The level of micromanagement going on at the Brooklyn Kremlin is unbelievable.
In the next Watchtower issue, they are going to tell us how many times to chew our food, and what kind of toothpaste to use.
