Probably a great opportunity for new light, it seems to be a way the org deals with a lot of what happens and problems.

Watchtower can be sued for NOT allowing blood transfusions ???
by run dont walk in.
i was watching the news today in alberta canada, saw a preview for the 6 o'clock news tonight mountain time channel 3, there will be a piece about a former jw, father (i believe it is lawrence) who's daughter died of leukima, and was not allowed to have blood because of her religion.
apparently the court has ruled that he can sue the watchtower for negligence, hopefully someone can tape this news piece and put in on the net, unfortunately i don't know how to do that.. go lawrence !!!!!!!!

People who read the WT are MEAN!
by kristyann ini am having kind of a bad day.
i know that i really should not complain... i know that i have things so much better than most people on this planet, and everyday that i wake up with my health and a roof over my head and something to eat, i am having a great day compared to most.
it makes me think... why do i even bother throwing them out?

Hello Kristyann,
Keep being the happy and cheerful person that you normally are and try to put all that stuff behind you, I know it is not easy, but in the long run will be worth it. I agree that the dubs tend to be generally mean, unless they are knocking on your door or you are entering their kh, in either case being a possible convert. But if you have resisted them or seem to be causing a dub to start to resist, you are immediately equated with satan, because in thier feeble minds and by their misguided interpretations of scripture, they are the only ones in the truth.
It amazes me when people who are jws will let their organization come between family, but shunning is not a myth, in fact it is well documented. I can not believe that the members of the jws state that one of the reasons that they are the chosen few is that one of the characteristics God uses to identify a true religion is "God's people show genuine, unselfish ove for one another", but from what I have seen unless you are a dub, they don't show you any, because you are not 'in the truth' and will just be annihilated at armageddon anyhow. Actually on a pro-jw reform site the author of an article titled "Are Jehovah's Witnesses the Only True Religion?" even states that the witnesses fail to measure up to this standard.
People are difficult to understand Kristyann, just continue to be the good person you and in the long run it shall be for your best.

Did you feel uncomfortable going into churches when you were a JW?...
by Hecklerboy ini remember going into churches when i was a jw for wedding or funeral and feeling a sense of dread.
i thought the demons were going to come out of the walls at me.
and of course i had the self-rightous attitude that the church would be destroyed soon in armegeddon.. recently i've been helping teach a karate class at a local baptist church.

I know my wife, even though she has been inactive, is very uncomfortable in a church, and when she sees me take communion all she can think about is how I am sinning. That in addition to a prominent display of a cross and the church I attend being Lutheran is very into liturgy and ritual, she has no idea what to think of it.
Any ideas from you all of a less ritualistic Christian church which may not be as daunting to an inactive or ex jw??

That is so funny Chimene, I think I would be in trouble with any organzation who would restrict the type of food I am able to eat. I don't understand how these so called religions pick and choose the scripture that they want their lemmings to fall in line with, and then why the lemmings don't read the scripture in context to see what it is really saying. If one proof texts the bible, or any book for that matter, one can make it say whatever they want too!

Hello, I am new to the board as well, so probably not a lot of help, but a good site to learn about the jw blood policy is www.ajwrb.org, they seem to present the issue pretty fairly, not just a puppet of the society.
Good luck!!

How can an intelligent person accept stuff like 'theocratic war strategy', 'light is getting brighter' etc without seeing right through it I just don't understand. What amazes me is that people not only from the dubs, but many other faiths just accept what the leadership shoves down the chute, sort of like on animal house when the pledge is getting paddled and he keeps responding "Thank you sir, may I have another". After a bit of time an intelligent person should be able to say when enough is enough.....

Thanks Auld Soul,
I wish I'd have known that at the time of my wedding, but was not worth the fight. What was also interesting at the time was the other traditions we were unable to do such as a unity candle because it is a tradition that is man made and not scriptural. For an organization who prides themselves on unity of thought, there sure seems to be a lot of disunity here.

Welcome to the forum, I am also not a jw, but have learned a lot from this site. When looking for info on the watchtower, there tends to be the information posted on their official site, which really appears to only be a placeholder to make sure someone else does not get the url for thier use and then a lot of very critical information of the watchtower. Before my wife's parents made a big deal about not attending our wedding in a church and we moved it to a chapel, where we had to remove the cross because of its non-Christian symbolism and then her starting a bible study, I knew nothing about the jws, except they went door to door. Now what I am learning about the jws is alarming to me, not necessarily because of the doctrine (which I do not agree with and I do believe is faulty), but because of the dominating control exercised by the organization and their position between most of the members and God, it is essentially impossible to have a personal relationship with your God, it is only through an organization. One of the sites I found interesting, though still biased is the jwreform site, which has ex jws or present jws sort of in hiding and are questioning the organization, while still believing the theology.
Good luck with your search for information.

I am also sorry to hear about this, but I can see the same happening next time I am with my wife's (who is an inactive jw) family who believes they are 'in the truth'. Each time I answer the phone and it is her mom, if I say I am not feeling well it is due to adam and me not putting my faith in Jehovah. I have a really tough time biting my tongue and if it were in person, most likely would not!
