My wife recently became a citizen and when she was registered to vote, she was very excited....now she is with the mindset that though earthly governments are important due to keeping some semblance of order, voting only brings one farther from Jehovah because it makes one more of this world....what is the current view on voting, is it one of those things that is stated to be a matter of conscience, but one is strongly frowned upon if they actually make a decision to do it?

End Times Preaching and Armageddon - has the WTS made a new push on this?
by insearchoftruth inmy wife has been an on again, off again sympathizer of the jws.
she recieved a phone call this past weekend from a sister who had attempted to study with her in the past and all of a sudden she is reading all the wts literature she can on the meaning of armageddon and the topic of paradise earth.
has the wts started a new push on this topic as of late??

Thanks all, some really good information here, still processing how to really use it. Very interesting point you make Terry, will need to start to read this stuff a bit differently now.
Pretty much have confirmed that it is the end times stuff that has her all fired up, she has been looking at Reasoning from the Scriptures (in spanish so I can not read the titles directly, but I have an english version at work) and she has read the chapters on Armageddon, Earth and Death from what I can tell.
I am pretty sure she blew off the bs she was to have yesterday, but not sure if was her or the pesky sisters choice, but from what I can tell, she still plans on the DC next weekend, so need to be working on some questions to get her thinking on her own, not just accept the stuff that they are going to overwhelm her with......

Governments and voting - have there been reinforcments in this?
by insearchoftruth inwas wondering since this an election year in the us, if the wts has been reinforcing its position on the voting ban...i thought it recently had become a matter of conscience, but tonight my wife was talking about how she realizes there is a need for governments, but there will be only one government which will bring peace.

i asked her about selecting the government and she said that there will always be people who vote and they can select the governements since overall government really does not matter.. i am guessing that she has spent more time with the pesky sister in her free time than i had previously thought.

Sorry to hear that, but I can fully understand the stress. My wife became a citizen last September and was very excited to be able to vote, now she is talking about how we don't need to since there will always be people who vote. I said that if one doesn't vote, they do not have the right to complain about governement and left it at that.

Looking for help on JW Doctrine on Paradise Earth
by insearchoftruth ini believe that it is fear of impending armegeddon that is the 'gravity' that is acting on my wife by the jws, and i know a lot of that is due to the media and the portrayals of the current world conditions.
she has asked me about the lutheran view of armageddon, which frankly i am not sure of, since it is not a focal point of the faith (so i need to do some homework on this) and also she keeps bringing up the paradise earth doctrine, and asks me if 'jehovah' did not mean for man to inhabit the earth, why was it created.
what would her come back (or should i say the jw comeback) be if i pointed her to the many places in the bible where it talks about a new earth, the destruction of the present earth and similar?

Some observations and questions about the NWT
by witnessgirl ini don't know whether anyone here has encountered a program called e-sword (with the hyphen in it like that).
it is bible study software that lets you install literally dozens of different translations of the bible to compare, plus dictionaries, maps, and commentaries (including historic commentaries like the ones ray franz describes in coc).
you can install both modern and historic translations, plus versions of the original greek and hebrew manuscripts as well as the latin vulgate and greek septuagint translations.

Thanks St. Ann, and I have a copy of Captives of a Concept at work, will need to break it out and re read it again.....it really is good and it does a wonderful job of pointing things out very logically without seeming like it is an attack...thanks for the reminder.
