lonliness and the very real temptation

i studied with the witnesses when i was in high school, 1984 my father didn't care at all but my mother was against it.

about a 4 month book study with the paradise book.

we met at a nearby jw's house once a week for a couple of hours.. since i was only exposed to the teachings and the very kind people for a short time i have very good memories of my experience with book study and the jw's.. i'm alone and lonely and they knock and i talk.

Please read the forum and ask lots of questions. My wife has not worked for a few years, been attempting to take college classes. She has a JW family, so the teachings were always in her mind, and I think the lonliness and the attraction of people coming to see her is what has drawn her back in.

Study sites like www.jwfacts.com and learn about the history of the organization and their inconsistencies. Keep your mind open now because as you move along, what they want you to look at will become much more narrow.

here's one example: being a congregation publisher.

nowhere in the bible does it say you should be a "publisher" and turn in your time if you preach.

they try to twist the scriptures by saying that numbers are constantly being recorded in the bible so then conforming to the rules of being a publisher is from the scriptures.. yeah, right..

Today Thanksgiving is celebrated in the Philippines, Liberia, Canada, Guam, South Korea, some of the Caribbean region etc, and there were also days of thanks throughout Germanic and Slavic speaking nations.

God began the annual autumn harvest Festival of Booths or Festival of Ingathering for Israel's tribes. (Lev 23:33, Deu 16:13) The New Testament shows the giving of thanks as when Paul says many gave thanks to God for having saved his life. (I Cor 1:11) Pilgrim colonists in America later gave thanks for survival and bounty.

The various British colonies in what is now the U.S. had Thanksgiving, George Washington made it into a national holiday and it was not regularly celebrated in the U.S. until Abraham Lincoln. How strange then that some falsely claim Thanksgiving has no biblical basis or is a nationalistic holiday for the U.S. alone!

Further, at Colossians 2:16 Paul notes: "So don't let anyone judge you because of what you eat or drink. Don't let anyone judge you about holy days. I'm talking about special feasts and New Moons and Sabbath days." So Jehovah's Witnesses and the few other groups opposing Thanksgiving do so without a foot to stand on, including not scripturally.

That celebrating Thanksgiving is bad......the Bible even talks of a celebration of the harvest in the OT.

(that's what i was always told and read anyway.).

last time i checked population growth far outsrips the growth of jehovah's witnesses.

in 1930, rutherford moved russells date of the parousia from 1874 to 1914. .

thus until 1930 not one follower had recognised the currently ascribed significance in heaven to the time that corresponds to 1914 on our earth.

Basically anything and everything, in relationship to the JWs if she wants to slip out and go to a meeting, if she is going to drop by the JWs house, if they are over for her mind control session......what ever.

This sort of 'not telling the whole story' has carried over to other things, evasive answers on not attending her classes, not saying how she is doing in classes. The big one is if she is out shopping and she says she has gone to stores A, B and C, I will ask her if she spent anything so I can keep the accounts somewhat balanced, she will say no and the statement will come up that she purchased something at store D....well I ask her about it and the response is normally something flippant like I didn't tell you that I didn't spend anything there.........

I have not read the article, but my wife who was raised in a JW family and who is currently studying with them again does not consider the withholding of information a lie.......even if it is somewhat important...as long as it benefits her cause.

Book and magazine distribution, how does it work??

having never been a jw, was wondering how this works.

do the magazines and books get shipped via commercial carries (usps, ups, fedex) to the individual kh?

what sort of stock does a kh keep at hand for the pubs, do they keep a supply of books like ypa, revelation, daniel and the other more current documents?.

What sort of stock does a KH keep at hand for the pubs, do they keep a supply of books like YPA, Revelation, Daniel and the other more current documents?

Does the KH pay the mother ship when the mags are delivered?

When a publisher (or anyone for that matter) picks up a book or a magazine, are they responsible for a 'donation' at that time, and then is the donation pretty well a suggested amount??

Any other comments on this would be appreciated.
