  from an ex-jw perspective , i was quite interested in the above article , which the spectator ( presumably ) felt obligated for legal reasons to publish to allow a response to a rather unfavourable article below.. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-troubling-history-of-mormonism.

  the arguments are fairly rehearsed and often used by jw "spokesmen".

  Rolf Furuli New Book

  for those who haven't come across furuli before , he is a 77 year old norwegian professor and is ( or was ) one of the few "scholarly" jws used by the society and used as a source on various matters ( especially 607 bce ).. however recently he has fallen out with the gb and has published an interesting book - like many recent scholarly apologists , he seems to be going down the road of disagreeing with the authority of the gb but still holding that the jws is the one true religion.

  kind of "lions led by donkeys".

  whether this view will continue is anyones guess.

  re jws , from a quackery pseudo medicine / religion standpoints , thankfully the crazier woodworth / rutherford anti vaccination etc inspired medical nonsense was mostly ditched in the 50's and 60's.

  the ban on transplants was ditched more recently.

  Did anyone else have a JW "sliding doors" moment when they made the wrong call.

  reading the thread on mind numbing meetings reminds me of the following event that occurred when i was about 19.. i'd got a full time job away after leaving school and was working about 20 miles away - thursday night meetings necessitated working later , catching a 6.10pm bus after work and walking 10 minutes or so straight to the kh , often arriving just as the meetings were starting or a few minutes late and getting the "evil eye" from some of the jws when i arrived.

  my parents ( father was the presiding overseer ) would bring my clothes in the car and i would get changed into my suit in the kh toilets.. it was one of those moments when all the stars seemed to align.

  i had had a particularly stressful day at work and was even more tired & hungry than usual on a thursday night.

  Witness No More - any thoughts?

  for those who don't know , there is an ex-jw "activist" in the north of england called mark who demonstrates outside kingdom halls , focusing on the child abuse issue and similar topics.

  he regularly updates his visits on his youtube channel , which has gained something of a cult following .

  occasionally ( albeit less frequently , as he is now well known ) he gets into the kh & shouts and disrupts the meeting.
