Yes, jesus words to "do this in remembrance of me" is the basis for the memorial. However, because JW's believe Jesus was only speaking to his annointed followers the R/F non-annointed JW does not partake. Just watch that wine and bread pass by.

So what about Lent and Easter??
by Super_Becka inok, so today is the first day of lent (which is painfully obvious to me because i've chosen to give up my favourite snacks for lent and right now, i have a really bad craving for doritos), and it got me to thinking, once again, about wts doctrine and the whole banning of holidays thing that they have going on.. i've read the reasons behind banning things like birthdays, christmas, halloween, mother's and father's day and national holidays like canada day and independence day, but i have yet to read anything about lent and easter.. so, what's the line of reasoning behind the banning of lent and easter??
and i don't mean easter as in chocolate bunnies and easter eggs and all of that, i mean easter as a religious celebration of the resurrection of christ.
after all, jws have the memorial of the crucifixion, don't they??

JW couples don't love each other
by Nosferatu inhas anyone else ever noticed this in the kh?
married couples don't seem to show any affection to each other.
however, when a couple is dating, they will hold hands.

Justitia Themis, I agree. The pool is very tainted but the longer the wait and the smaller it gets the more likely you are to swim into a turd.

I've know of many cases where a couple is counceled to stop showing affection in the KH because it may stumble a single person into immorality or cause undo stress on the 35 y/o pioneer sister, utterly rediculous. Which reminds me, a while back a single pioneer sister in my cong. was being interviewed during the service meeting. They were trying to enourage the flock to pioneer, focusing on un-married youths and how they shouldn’t get married rather serve Jehovah full time (you have all of eternity in the new system to get married….right?) This sister, who was very attractive, was in her early thirties and had been pioneering for years. When they asked her if she regretted not getting married for the purpose of pioneering she broke down in tears. You could tell she really just wanted to have a man in her life but as many will tell you if you don’t get married young in the truth you won’t find a decent mate anywhere, only weirdos and freaks. She tried to explain away her reaction but everyone saw through it. I still feel bad for that poor sister.

JW’s don’t celebrate Easter because they do not believe it was commanded to do so in the bible, and we all know you can’t do ANYTHING that isn’t commanded in the bible. JW’s rest the importance, not on his resurrection (recreation), but rather his death/sacrifice for our salvation. The memorial celebrations are supposed to be a remembrance and observance on this sacrifice/means of salvation as well as the final supper (but only for the mighty anointed). Also, like Christmas/Jesus Birth, Easter does not fall on the exact day that Jesus was resurrected. You will note that JW’s celebrate the memorial on a different calendar day almost every year. This is because the day Jesus died, Nisan 14, is a Jewish calendar day and therefore does not match up exactly with the Gregorian calendar. Then there are the “pagan rituals” associated with commercialized Easter. I have always found the memorial to be an over hyped, anti- climactic event, boring me to tears almost every year. The overly serious and solemn demeanor of everyone involved is laughable. Last year, in fact, we had some friends over for dinner after the memorial. When everyone was there I went to the fridge and grabbed a brew. I offered some to my friends and they all turned me down. They said “we don’t drink alcohol on this day”. I was a little stunned but a few more beers took care of that. On the other hand a family in our old cong. would take the wine they used at the memorial and finish off the bottle at home that night. I wish some kid would just tip that wine all over the PO’s wife’s dress…..oh please please please please.

What do you make of the Daniel Book

WOW! Thanks alot Leolaia! I have always felt that there was something fishy with the WTS interpretation of Daniel, it just never quite sounded right. Regarding them thrusting the prophecies into the 20th century, it bothers me how they skip over centuries of world history without much mention to arrive into the 20th century. I'm sure if you looked at every military conquest from the 3rd century up to the 19th century you could find many military and political situations that could be made to fit the Daniel prophecies. Very self serving.

Franz and a "New" Witness Organization?
by Nellie in.
this strikes me as typical "apostate phobia propaganda" - but a "witness" just told me that ray franz started a "new order of jehovah's witnesses" after he was disfellowshipped.. is there any truth to this?

While I have no knoweldge or Ray Franz having or not having his own brand of witnesses, this type of rumor falls in line how the society portrays apostates. They are apostates because, according to the WTS, they speak out against the WTS and trying to gain a following of their own. My brief experience thus far with apostates has actually been the opposite. While most have very strong feelings agains the WTS most also want to avoid the type of controlling environment they escaped from. They don't want to have any part of a controlling org., this includes being the head of one themselves. Most opostates show more christian love and christian qualities than your r/f JW.

I went to my first bookstudy in at least 4 weeks the other night. We were studying the Daniel Book. This particular study had to do with the “King of the North and the King of the South” in our modern day. According to this book the King of the North was Communist Russia and it’s “women” (smaller communist nations: Cuba, Vietnam, Korea, etc.) The King of the South was and still is the “Anglo American dual Power: USA & Britain) I was amazed at the leaps in logic and outright assumptions the book states on the identities of these two “Kings”. I guess in times past I just assumed the GB knew what they were talking about. It seemed to me the WTS basically looks at Daniel and makes past history fit into his prophecies. It almost sounds logical! What are your takes on this book and the WTS’s application of it in our modern day? I have never studied the Bible book of Daniel without the “aid” of this book and it’s difficult for me to discount the WTS take on it as I am, as I say, in my “infancy of learning the truth about “the truth””.
On a side note, I was asked to give the opening prayer for the book study. As I began I wanted to focus on asking God to help us learn from his word the Bible alone. However, my trusty JW training kicked in about half way and I found myself asking God to help us get all we can out of the “spiritual food” we are provided by the FDS. I about puked, and I’m surprised God didn’t strike me dead at that moment. Makes me sick how indoctrinated I really am.

A thought of a question this weekend and was hoping a former cong. elder or circuit overseer could answer it for me. What exactly is contained on a publishers card? Do they keep track of past transgressions? If so, is that scriptual?

I’m curious. For those of you who were at one time an elder or circuit overseer. What exactly is contained on a publishers card? Do they keep track of past transgressions where you may have been reproved or had a j.c.? Is this at all scriptual?
