Blondie that is exactly what I was thinking when I read the post. But something occured to me. As a young JW boy I was always told that if someone offered me a birthday gift, say at school, I was to refuse it and explain to them why I did not celebrate birthdays ("because my mom said I can't...eeerrr...I mean because it makes Jehovah sad"). So, why did Mary and Joseph accept these gifts, from pagan magi none the less. Why didn't she say "I'm sorry pagan magi but I am unable to accept your gifts of gold, incence and myrrh on this, the birthday, of our lord and savior Jesus the Christ. You see, I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and we do not celebrate birthdays because it makes Jehovah sad. If you would like a free home bible study to learn more about jehovah's witnesses and their teachings I would be happy oblige. What are you doing next Thursday, say about noon?"

They keep preaching urgency but the opposite is happening.
by lost_light06 ini have not been to the dc yet this year but i have a feeling i know exactly what they are going to say.
do not lose your urgency, keep awake!, dont fall asleep in this old system of things.
basically the same crap we have heard for years, decades, generations (pre-1995 understanding).

I have not been to the DC yet this year but I have a feeling I know exactly what they are going to say. “do not lose your urgency”, “keep awake!”, “don’t fall asleep in this old system of things”. Basically the same crap we have heard for years, decades, generations (pre-1995 understanding). Yet, in my experience, no one is listening. For example: my wife is a true believer of the JW religion. After I told her I don’t believe it she went gung-ho on me trying to re-indoctrinate me (didn’t work). After her initial shock wore off we have slipped back into the same routine. Irregular meeting attendance, no study, would rather go to the beach or out clubbing than go to meeting. My friend, even though he is a MS, rarely goes out in the ministry, misses meetings all the time and apparently has a fondness for porn. I have many more examples but you get the point. The younger generation (by this I mean pre-30’s, not that +30’s are old, just not younger) seems to definitely be “cooling off” and I can only imagine how the even-younger pre-20’s generation is doing. Is this the case in most other areas as well? I would be lying if I said that I’m not optimistic about the demise of the WTBS in the near future even though my mind tells me that will never happen.

Oh I forgot about the hair color thing. I got a talking to once by the CO for dying my hair and having highlights. He said that in Bethel they consider that a sign that you are gay (Why? Did Leo Greenless and Percy Chapman have highlights in their hair?). At the time I was real receptive and quickly dyed it back to it’s natural color. Nowadays I rarely shave before meetings.

Apparently the child is suffering kidney failure and needs a transplant but the mother feels "natural remedies" should be tried first.

beards (including goatees), shaved head, sideburns below the ear lobe. All these are "frowned upon" (i.e. if you want to be considered good association) in my area. No one seems to have a problem with handlebar mustaches though. There's more than a few bro's in my area who got the "OCC Paul Tuttle" goin' on.

Sorry, another 607 question? I'm confused.
by lost_light06 inim trying to figure something out concerning the wts 607-1914 chronology that has me confused.
i thought they based the chronology on when jerusalem was destroyed.
however, the following is taken from the daniel book and it seems to base it on something else.

No, not really. I still have every other false prediction an lie to convince me of the WT's true origin. Just because you say things like "obviously happened" and "the correct date" doesn't mean your right or even convincing. It does mean that you certainly have the WT lingo down pat.

I’m trying to figure something out concerning the WT’s 607-1914 chronology that has me confused. I thought they based the chronology on when Jerusalem was destroyed. However, the following is taken from the Daniel book and it seems to base it on something else.
When did the counting of the "seven times" begin? After Zedekiah, the last king in the typical Kingdom of God, was removed from the throne in Jerusalem by the Babylonians. (Ezek. 21:25-27) Finally, by early October of 607 B.C.E. the last vestige of Jewish sovereignty was gone. By that time the Jewish governor, Gedaliah, who had been left in charge by the Babylonians, had been assassinated, and the remaining Jews had fled to Egypt. (Jeremiah, chapters 40-43) Reliable Bible chronology indicates that this took place 70 years before 537 B.C.E., the year in which the Jews returned from captivity; that is, it took place by early October of 607 B.C.E
Correct me if I’m wrong but this seems to differ from past WT articles and publications which place the importance on the destruction of Jerusalem. Here it is placing the importance on the loss of sovereignty and the throne by Zedekiah. Is this another “new light” change? Did the WT abandon the assertion that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 but asserting that it lost it’s sovereignty in 607? Also, when was the Jewish king overthrown? We know Jerusalem was destroyed in 586/587 but it had already been “captive” under the Babylonian empire, but for how many years?

Kia or Hyundai?
by confusedjw inkia spectra 5 or hyundai elantra gt hatchback?
any experience with either of these cars?
they both drive great and are much more affordable than the honda and toyotas.

If I HAD to choose I would go with Hyundai. While I'm not sure of the history of Kia, Hyundai has been around for decades not only as a auto mfg. but in many industrial fields (a lot like Daewoo, although they don't sell cars in the US anymore) . Hyundai was never a good car but it seems they have improved in the last few years. Kia??? not so sure about. They haven't been around in the US long enough to make comparisons. I would seriously consider buying a Japanese made auto though, even a used one, as you will be all but guaranteed a great car that will last forever.
