i'd be interested to know your experiences if this applies to you.. i was in touch with an old friend and we got to talking about why it is that jws don't reach out to their inactive friends.. this friend commented that "the reason why no one has reached out to you is because most jws are required to display friendship, not because they like you but because they are told to.".
in my old congregation, there were many "young ones"; dubs between the ages of 15 and 29. a couple of them showed interest in me but it never lasted, usually because others in the congregation would, in so many words, tell them i was bad association.. i did not fit in with the congregation i grew up in - and my peers let me know that.
they ignored me as often as they could at the kingdom hall.
My parents were so strict that I could not go to alot of functions (unless there was someone there my paretns trusted) even though I was invited. This went on until I left the house at 18.
I hated growing up a JW, I was so embarrased of my parents so much growing up.
It was embarrasing knowing that kids did not want to hang out with me because my parents were so strict, and my dad was known in the circuit for being "cold".

i have heard that "paradise" will be achieved gradually; that it will take all of the thousand years to reach that state of perfection.. .
now, while you may be convinced that it will take all that time to bring the earth back to it's pristine state....suppose it applies to humans as well?.
imagine this scenerio: wounds and broken bones heal slowly and gradually; your bags and sags are still there, but since you have seen results of other people, you hang on that the promise will be for you, too.
That is what I remember being taught, that logically we would not be perfect after Armagedon, it would be gradual, we woud gradually grow into perfection.

Yes DJK! I too was taught and I taught-LOL that the different nationalities (red, yellow, purple, and green people) and languages stemmed from the destruction of the tower of babel (got it mixed up with Sodom and Gomorrah earlier, my bad)***

Didn't the ORG preach the different nationalities came about when Sodom and Gomorrah(?) was distroyed...I remember that my parents made me do a speech in class on how the JWs believed in how all the different races came about...I can't remember exactly, it was so embarrassing, got made fun of months after I did it...

after more than 20yrs without a relationship....after more than 5yrs without hearing a word from her, i called.. out of the blue, i just called.. me: hi, mom, it's me lisa.
mom: oh, hi.. me: well, it's been a long time, i just wanted to check and see how you and dad were.. mom: we're fine.. the conversation ranged from, the weather, my husband, my children and grandchildren, (whom she's never met) my animals, gardening.
we talked about how dad was doing now, (after a stroke) how he walks with a cane, and uses an electric wheel chair when they go to walmart.
I know this feeling of wanting that normal relationship with your parents like you do your own.
Have not seen my dad since 1992 (think the last time I talked to him by phone was Jan 1993 when I was DFd)
My mom and I reunited after 8 years in 2000, she was DFd at that time, our relationship has been never been normal, nor do I expect now that it will be ever be. I barely even know her, she is still like a stranger to me.

PS~my husband hates it too, but he watches it with me, perhaps deep down inside, he likes it, but has to keep "cool" about it because he has stated he hates it so many times...well I don't care, we have another TV...its the only show that I insist on watching, all other times, he can have the remote....not a bad deal for him, I think.

Carrie sang beautifuly, but I too asked my daughter, why is her like that? She is so gorgeous, but they tucked her hair under to make it look like a "bob" (I read about this hairdo in my Style magazine - LOL), I thought her hair looked Grand Ole Opryish (no pun inteneded), still love her...
I too think Adam Lambert will win, Rain of Fire was very strange but I thought it was cool and different. Even if he does not win (look what happened to Chris Daugtry), he will be fine on his own, he has true talent.
Alot of them do this year, I was not sure at 1st, now that its down to the final 10, they have weeded out the ones that needed to go.
I have to say, I do not like the Knoop guy, I just would not buy his CD, and when he did Beat It last week, I just cringed.

i have been out over 5 years now.
i feel we all start healing at different speeds depending on how much hurt we went through in exiting ; and how much we've educated ourselves about how and why we were sucked in by a mind control cult.
at first i felt anger towards the organization , but after learning about mind control within 3 years of leaving the cult i felt sorry for those who are still trapped inside the witnesses being deceived.
I have been out since Oct 1992, just left on a Monday early evening after I went out in service all day with my mom...no one knew except those that were halping me escape. It was a 3 month plan...I ve told the story.
I feel I have moved from the JW faith, its my parents that bother me...but its bearable.
