Are you tired of the whole atheist/believer debate?

i'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.

the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.

how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

I know they do care, but I don't know why. I'm not even sure they can objectively explain why.

They probably don't care in reality, but when attack by arguments like these they defend themselves because of the obvious irony in them.

1. Most all horrible inhumane acts in human history are connected to some form of religion

2. There is no evidence to support that people who believe in God are acually morally superior than those who arn't

3. This is simply an arugment of 'We are better than You' and is actually quite insulting and anyone would defend themselves in this situation.

I agree, lovelylil. Although, to be fair the argument probably started with religious zealots accusing scientists (and those merely interested in science) of poisoning the minds of young people.

Exactly! This issue isn't if God exists, the issue is really about is science correct. Creationist make crazy claims that science has gone terribly amiss and the whole universe is only 10,000 years old at most. They claim that the direction science is taking is only meant to take away from God instead of being a course in true scientific inquiry. The motives, evidence and teachings of all branches of modern science are put into question and are critizied because some people feel it threatens their world view about how the universe came into existance.

These are the arguments I have a problem with, if you want to believe in the flying spaghetti monster thats fine, buy why put down science??

Depends on my mood...

Lately I've come to the realization that most theists are not really open to discussing the real issue, they only want to critize science, even though if God exists one could argue that he used evolution to create the universe.

I guess in some sence, this IS the question, if there is no God, then there are a lot of people out there acting really silly and making really silly arguments. If there is a God, this does nothing to the athiest / agnostic position because he does nothing to prove he exists and has never been known to intervein in human affairs so therefore our non-belief means nothing.

If I do argue the point it is only to sharpen my aruging skills, as I know you cannot convert a true believer with facts.

Here's an interesting E-mail from a fellow Witness:

Why did those people get baptized if they had so many questions and doubts? This accusation is nothing new.It sounds just like the lies made up to attack Jesus Christ. We do not beat anyone up .
Jesus said we musgt be united. ( ONE ) how can a group be united when people openly attack our beliefs. It is rude, and to openly try to cause dissent is exactly why sone of the early ones were disfellowshipped .
We gladly discuss any questions and no one forced them to get baptized when they did not beleive.Did they deliberately do such just to make a scene?
Now what is the will of Jehovah? One thing he wanted done was make his name known. Few religions do so, and most will scorn the name of Jehovah. So that eliminates most religions as being true!
And what armor was described for a true Christain? Sword of the spirit, helmet of Salvation, feet shod with the good news. breastplate of righteousness.
Can one wear armor of any government and be a christian? Well that eliminates most religions who promote a different kingdom and send their young men to wars, congratulating them on the good brave thing they have done for their country.
Jesus said to love our neighbors... and in even recent years many so called christian groups have conducted wars killing their neighbors doing what they called ethnic cleansing.That too has elimated most religions.
What about the lies told by Christendom. They tell you that if you are bad you will be tortured forever in a hellfire.What do you think of anyone that tortures by burning anyone even for a little while? a terrible person. Yet they say that God will permit that to happen. They never tell you that the everlasting fire spoken of in the bible was the city dump. They do not tell you that when you are dead you are conscious of nothing at all.
When people are told they are disfellowshipped they don 't like getting rejected so they exaggerate and twist what is done.That is what the above stories are. And sure it makes the news. The news is fullo f untrue stories. Expose" No! Gossip.
