  i would like to write an article outlining some of the goofy stories that jws believe.

  for example, when i was young, this story went around: .

  a couple decided that they would miss the meeting to go to see a hypnotist.

  All this stuff is actually pretty serious when witnesses start believing they are possessed by demons - and I've seen it, and calling out to Jehovah year after year doesn't help them.

  i saw a program called witchcraze last night about how up to 1500 women were accused of witchcraft (demonism?

  ) in scotland between 1589-159, and were persecuted, accused, tortured, strangled and burned - by king james i just before he became king of england.

  i was told by a 'new anointed' that satan can inject evil thoughts into people.

  I saw a program called witchcraze last night about how up to 1500 women were accused of witchcraft (demonism?) in Scotland between 1589-159, and were persecuted, accused, tortured, strangled and burned - by King James I just before he became King of England.

  I was told by a 'new anointed' that Satan can inject evil thoughts into people. All of this seems to encourage the belief in demonic possession.

  Encouraging this type of belief in people only plants nightmarish beliefs in polytheism, i.e. Jehovah without and the demons within. A recipe for tragedy if you ask me.

  What does Acts 15 mean, people "called by my name"? Help needed!

  is this referring to jehovah or jesus?

  i am in discussion with someone and need an answer that would satisfy a thick skulled jw.. in the nwt it says .

  (acts 15:15-18) 15 and with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written, 16 after these things i shall return and rebuild the booth of david that is fallen down; and i shall rebuild its ruins and erect it again, 17 in order that those who remain of the men may earnestly seek jehovah, together with people of all the nations, people who are called by my name, says jehovah, who is doing these things, 18 known from of old.

  Interestingly Acts is post Jesus death. So Jesus no longer has the opportunity to correct anybody and a whole new theology is built.

  Jesus claimed to be a son of God. The Gospel writers after his death claimed that his mother was a virgin - but this unnecessary addition only served to obscure Jesus actual teaching. It is not necessary to deifer the message bearer in order to prove the message. Jesus teachings stand on their own merits, as we are told by the WTBTS was recognised by Mahatma Gandhi. Jesus taught us to also be sons and daughters of God, to pray to our Father in heavens and to love our neighbours - brothers and sisters - as ourselves. Notice that it was not necessary to call God by name, the much more intimate "ABBA" or "Father" was the appropriate name, indicating a relationship of father with son or daugther.

  I know it doesn't help much with the original question but it is relevant to the "name" part.

  Jehovah as Satan - human sacrifice in the Bible

  in the bible there is a human sacrifice of jepthah's daughter as a burnt offering at judges 11:29,11:39, in gratitude for giving jepthah victory in battle.

  now the wtbts and others more recently proclaim that this was only a sacrifice of her virginity and that by sacrificing her as a burnt offering what it really meant was that she was forcibly restrained from having marital relations and forced to die a virgin.

  do any sisters see any similarity with the injunction to sisters to only marry in the lord???

  This is even in the New World Translation. I'm blown away that the Bible itself considers human child sacrifice to Chemosh the God of Moab to be effective against the Israelites.

  I wonder whether the authors of the New Testament after the Gospels are so profoundly influenced by Jesus that they try to place him in the context of the old testament. If so this would explain why more emphasis has been given to Jesus death which has been post hoc erga procter hoc deemed a sacrifice, than to his teaching.

  2 Kings 3:27 certainly puts a new light on the interpretation of Jesus death as a ransom.

  Attacking Satan by drawing scary pictures

  i was watching pictures of the stampedes at the haj and it occurred to me that throwing stones at the pillar of satan was a really ineffective way of dealing with evil in the world.

  it occurs to me that drawing scary pictures of satan in the watchtower is similarly ineffective in combating evil.. any thoughts?

  that is, the named god of the bible that sanctioned the genocide of millions of unbelievers.

  as the israelites came into the 'promised land' god told them to devote to destruction 7 populous nations and not let a breathing thing live, or in other words commit genocide!!!

  Why does the WTBTS depict God as a white male??? I thought no man or woman could lay their eyes on God and survive. Ipso facto the picture here is not of God our creator.

  ok the story i get from my jw relatives is that borg "isn't making money off them", but that never sat well with me.

  i've always wondered how much money she contributed to the borg.. since i don't have the nerve to ask them, and they probably won't tell me the "truth" if i do, i'm asking you folks.. how much money does the average jw contribute to the cause?

  how much do those silly magazines cost anyway?

  I've just seen too many people forgoing their lives in religious or quasi-"spiritual" cults and being told that everything will be given to them in a future life. (Buddhist = reincarnation, WTBTS = resurrection).
