Not pledges, exactly but I remember a resolution two or three years ago at a convention that said stuff like avoiding getting involved in "internet discussions" lol

Will the FDS start demanding a "pledge"?
by hamsterbait inremember how the bible students had to make a pledge, among other things "never to be alone in a room with a member of the opposite sex, except a sister, mother or daughter?".
do you think they will start to demand a "pledge of alliegance" to the borganisation?.
will those refusing to make it then be summaraily df, since they have shown by their refusal, that they do not believe that the gibbering buddy, is the appointed "fds" of matthew 25.. how likely is this do you think?.

Funniest Talk or Weird Things That Happened In Your Hall.
by Nephilim inthere is always at least 2 or 3 really crazy persons in the kingdom hall.
the kind of person that when they raise their hand the speaker on stage knows he's taking a gamble if he calls on them - yet he can't discriminate.. anyhow, i remember one time a younger brother was doing sound and one of those crazy brothers was about to give his 5 minute talk (i forget what number that was, prior to them just reading scripture).
the crazy brother slipped the young brother doing sound a cd and said "play this when i get on stage".. well, he gets up on stage and all of a sudden hawaiian music starts playing... the man on stage just starts dancing.

Graph from Dec 15 09 Wt on How to Apportion Your Time to Remain Joyful. Crazy....
by Hopscotch inhere is a scan from the dec 15 09 wt (study ed) with a graph of how a witness should apportion their time to remain joyful.. .
so according to this graph, to remain joyful a witness should spend 3 times as much of his waking hours in 'theocratic activities' as he should in secular work!
hopscotch.

Sadly, I know that if this was a study article, there would be at least a couple of people in my hall that would try to overanalize this chart just to try to make themselves look intellectual or spiritual, but I feel they would be missing the main point which would be one of striving for balance in one's life.

yes, skeeter, but isn't that just human nature? To be judgemental? I find it difficult that JWs have a monopoly on being judgemental, though I know ALOT of them at the KH. :)

To be fair I don't think that it was intended as a realistic pie chart of our weekly activities, but not to let one facet of our live overtake the other important ones.

New Light: Don't hold hands during prayers
by RR infrom the watchtower november 15 study edition.. 19 when we are being represented in public prayer, we need to display reverential "fear of god.
" (1 pet 2:17) there may be a proper time and place for some actions that would be inappropriate at a christian meeting.
(eccl 3:1) for instance, suppose someone sought to have all in a group link arms or hold hands during prayer.

I do agree that some people go overboard with full on hugs and such(newlywed couples especially :P )
But to show the "ideal" photo to be everyone clasping their own hands, the family seems so cold doesn't seem right either.

ethical question - maybe you can help
by besty inthis is hypothetical, but it must happen and i don't recall it being addressed before on jwn.
we are df'd about 2 years now.
our jw friends shunned us.. if one such friend now reaches out to contact us that would surely be a good thing, yes?

baltar447 - you seem to be suggesting we don't support the 'cheater', yet we can;t support the wronged party as they won't speak to us. So we abandon this couple to the winds?
It's a tough call. I'd find out more about it. Can you provide support to the person without supporting their actions?
