the news story was of particular interest to me, as my daughter's abuser lives about an hour south of st. louis where this story originates.. here is my email to them, as edited by my jw wife.. .

i need someplace to vent, so excuse me but i am very angry at the moment.
as most of you know, my father in law committed suicide last sunday (the 16th).
his death hit nina hard, but i've discovered this week that my sweet little kitten of a wife has the heart of a lion.

They don't like it because they don't get it - they're still blind.
I am so sorry that you are going through this. I have had similar frustrations and pain from them with two funerals in the past year. That anger just wells up and is so hard to deal with - venting is really good - I would also recommend that your wife see a counselor - I tried to deal with the anger and hurt on my own but after a while I finally realized that a counselor would help me sort it out in a positive way.
By the way - a little off the subject, but there's another line to Amazing Grace that answers why JW's just lip-sing or mumble their way through songs while you see other churches that sing out loud. I believe it is because JW's sing from a heavy heart, one that is desperate to be saved. Other's (like John Newton who wrote Amazing Grace) sing from a heart of joy that knows it's already been saved.

Well - when I met my hubby he was dating a very pretty young girl who would do ANYTHING he told her - I mean ANYTHING. He would go out with his friends and tell her to stay at home so he could call her IF he got a chance - and she'd do it (can you believe that?!!!)
I was quite different - having been on my own a few years I was quite a bit more independent and assertive. The first day he met me he told me I was a "smart @ss" and I told him to bite me. Well......jump ahead a few years - and here we are - he dumped the cute little thing who did everything he wanted and he married the "smart @ss" who still says .........BITE ME!! Some guys would rather have a woman with brains who is fun and interesting......and "moans" just a little louder than what was suggested
i had lunch with a friend and she was sharing with me a story about sister "so and so" and brother "so and so" and what everyone else thought about their dating, and how long their "courtship" should be and still be considered ok - is it too long, too short, - would they get in trouble because he stopped by the house to say hi when the rest of her family was gone - was it ok that they stood out in the front yard - what elder so and so's wife said - yadda yadda yadda.............as her words blurred together all i could think was thank god i am free!!!!!!!!!!!!.

i am technically still a jw but not a believer.

1) remember the watchtower suggested that if we were a member of any religious order before we became jws we should send them (the churches) a little note to request our names be taken of their false religious member list?
i certainly obeyed that request when i left and sent a note to the watchtower asking my name be taken off their false religious member list.
then they sent the elders to tell me what an insult it was for me to request this.
put them both outside in the back yard just incase there WAS demons attatched! durrrrr...I went and got them to read and would put them back out there when I had finished.
Good thing too - because we KNOW that those spiritual beings that are invisible, can move instantaneously from one location to another, can battle angels, move through the dimensions of heaven and earth, and have lived for thousands of years, can NOT move through walls and are stuck to inanimate objects.
Can you believe we used to think that?! I look back on some of my beliefs and wonder how I could have EVER believed that?!! It is a very humbling experience.

do any of you think and wonder the same thing?
I believe people who come into the JW's as adults are looking for an answer to their problems - and I would bet that most of them have little to no knowledge of the bible. This is why they are susceptible to the twisted doctrines and teachings of the JW's. They see people who seem to know their bible, have an answer for everything, and are very HAPPY - so they decide this must be the way.
I also believe that anyone who has really studied their bible and has a basic understanding of it's message would NOT be drawn into the JW organization as an adult.
And JW's assume that most people don't know their bible - which is why they like to FLAUNT their knowledge about it at the door. But when they run into someone who really DOES know their bible and is ready to defend their beliefs with scriptures - well, the JW tucks tail and runs. So much for the "ready to make a defense" scripture hu?
Yes - but only a few. The few that have proven to me they are trusthworthy - my husband, my kids, and one very dear friend.
I'll have to say - I don't really even trust myself sometimes - I have to stop and question "why" I think a particular way or "why" I believe something is true - do I have proof or am I simply accepting based on programming? Not trusting your own self is the hardest part.

I am pretty sure I would have not been interested in the JW's - now that I am out and have "deprogrammed" I look back and wonder how I could have been so blind as to not see this organization for what it is. It seems so completely obvious now.
My parents, on the other hand, having become JW's as adults, also studied with other high control groups previous to the JW's (7th day adventist for one) . I believe it was because they were unhappy and wanted everything "fixed" - high control groups do promise the "fix" to everything.
The real truth is that they still had all the problems - they just had something else besides themselves to blame them on - ie: if we go to more meetings, if we pioneer, if we leave it in Jehovah's hands. If they had only accepted that the problems were there and needed to be addressed now rather than in the new system I believe they would have been much happier.
i always found them to be painfully boring at best.
speaking of meetings, i was in a congregation where people openly admitted that the -only- reason they went was to see who brother cassanova-wanna-be (you know, the total geek who, in the world, wouldn't be able to pay a prostitute to go out with him, but in the truth, was considered a "catch" by virtue of having a penis) was going to hit on that week.
this brother routinely preyed upon women, leading them on, in some cases, rather cruelly.
I always enjoyed the tremendously..............when I decided to skip them
