1) Remember the Watchtower suggested that if we were a member of any religious order before we became JWs we should send them (the churches) a little note to request our names be taken of their false religious member list? I certainly obeyed that request when I left and sent a note to the watchtower asking my name be taken off their false religious member list. Then they sent the elders to tell me what an insult it was for me to request this. Whats good for the goose huh.
2) They used to tell us to get rid of anything associated with false religion, often quoting the Scripture were the fortune teller burned all the literature and items associated with former worship. Hence I burned as many Watchtowers & books as I could and finally took four huge bin bags of magazines to a local tip.
Funny how still having a JW mindset when I left led me to think I had to do the above and obey their rules....talk about backfiring.
What did you do with all your literature? Did you still obey their rules after you left?
This is my first thread since the board took on a spring clean so hope it works.
Haha Brummie, You are right, what is good for the goose....
What I did was leave all the literature at my parents house when I moved out. Of course, that didn't stop them from coming to visit and dropping off literature. They even brought my NWT by. I kept it in case I ever wanted to argue scripture with them, but got rid of the other junk.
It took me a while to allow another faith's literature in my house. I didn't want to get demonz!
LOL Robyn, It took me quite a while before I could allow any other literature in my home too. In fact when I first got Ed Gruss & Ray Franz books I rushed and put them both outside in the back yard just incase there WAS demons attatched! durrrrr...I went and got them to read and would put them back out there when I had finished...insanity was my middle name.
I now have a lot of the old WT books up in the loft, my mom inherited them off my JW gran when she died and eventually passed them on to me when she left the org. I have the original 7 studies and Rutherfords rainbow as well as the KITS, I havent encountered any demons yet, but perhaps they all live up the loft where I seldom go.

Good thing too - because we KNOW that those spiritual beings that are invisible, can move instantaneously from one location to another, can battle angels, move through the dimensions of heaven and earth, and have lived for thousands of years, can NOT move through walls and are stuck to inanimate objects.
Can you believe we used to think that?! I look back on some of my beliefs and wonder how I could have EVER believed that?!! It is a very humbling experience.
I like your thinking Brummie. I didn't send them a letter although by now I guess they figure I'm out of it since I have proudly displayed my flag outside for all to see, along with my Christmas decorations. My brother-in-law who is still in drives by from time to time and attends the same congregation I was attending has probably reported me for all of the sinful things I do.
As for the literature, I had them stored in boxes in the garage for a few years. My husband would give a silent or sometimes loud curse everytime he stubbed his toe on them or tried to move them. I finally got brave and decided to throw them away. It took several weeks of garbage days to throw them all away but I was sure relieved they were gone.
At hospitals, etc, where ever I encounter them, I make sure the literature gets filed away in the round file.
Halt Stop and Desist ! Do not throw away or burn any of the older WT or Bible Student Literature. Make a list of what you have and then do a search on Ebay.
I made a mistake 2 years of dumping all of my JW literature, some of it bound volumes dating back to the 50's, and since I did that, I have occasionally seen some of it advertsed on ebay for handsome amounts.
Remember, those out there who do not want to believe what they see scanned on the internet, are willing to see the original publications with their own eyes, and willing to pay top dollar for it.
I boxed up all the litter-ature and took the boxes to the garbage . . . one box at a time until there was no more litter-ature in my home. . . aaaah . . . peace at last . . .
Yes I obeyed those rules. First I rid myself of false literature by burning my entire library and collection of old magazines. Some time later I wrote my DA letter which appears in my profile. So I guess I continued in my WT thinking.
