Hey all.....
If anyone here lives in the vicinity of Tri-Cities, WA and would like to attend an x-jw meet-up this month send me a personal message I don't want to post time/location here for EVERYONE to see since some members attending still have family in....and some who are themselves still "in" may be there.
background information:first of all, i am not a jw.
i divorced my husband due to his alcohol addiction and because he repeatedly refused to seek help.
i could no longer carry the burden, and so after 30 years, i left.

It sounds like there is a lot of pain in you right now. I have two recommendations:
(1) Get as far away from this man as you can. Not necessarily just because he's a JW - but because, if after all this time, he is still unwilling to make a commitment to you, and still unsure of where he wants to be - he can only offer you more pain down the road. You deserve to have a man in your life who will stand up for you and be proud - not sneak around to see you behind closed doors.
(2) You stated you were a Christian - if you REALLY mean that, then pray about this. It's time to forgive both yourself and him - and get on with your life.
It will be tough for a while - but it's better to hurt a lot for a little while and then get better - than to hurt a lot for a long time!
other than living a happy life, is there anything you've done to get back at them?
i never was a jw but did do some creative things to cause a stir in one of the local halls.
all of it was legal too.
I don't feel like taking revenge on any of the JW's - they are victims just like I was. However, I have taken steps against the organization as a whole by giving my testimony to others regarding my experience as a witness, and then leaving the org. I have also shared what I know with a number of current and former JW's - as well as sharing some information with my pastors and other church members on how to "witness to a witness" . I'm also in the process of organizing a support group. I think these are all just positive forms of support to other people in need.
radical, militant islamists or a "rogue state" like n. korea will eventually succeed in nuking one or more american cities.
of this i am utterly convinced, it is not a matter of it "might" happen, the question is how soon will they succeed in pulling it off, and what will the fallout of such an event be, besides the loss of hundreds of thousands or perhaps millions of lives?.
john kerry in a recent stump speech said that all it would take is one megaterrorist attack to drastically change life as we know it.
It's definately a possibility. It's also a possibility that a huge meteorite could strike the planet sometime in the next century and destroy all life.....or that some new disease/plague could spread killing all but a few survivors..........or that I could die in one of the many plane trips I take for work.
If you live your life worrying about all the "what if's" you won't really get to live much will you? I think it's best to plan for the worst (ie: military preparation and homeland security measures) - but keep in mind that anything is possible and right now the world is beautiful - so enjoy it.
it's a safe bet that if you were raised as a jw, or if you came into it early in life, you have some strange ideas about money and finances.
the wt for decades made even minimal post-secondary education utterly taboo and only recently has capitulated that "some" extra schooling might be neccessary (associate degrees good, bachelors degrees bad).
the average youth raised a jw has little understanding of investment due to the apocalyptic worldview of the organization (why invest in a dying system when the big "a" is right around the corner?).
I agree with donkey totally on the aspect of saving money - like he said, if you make 150,000 a year but spend 170,000 a year you're headed for trouble!
My husband and I found good advice by going to a CPA right after we were married - he gave us all kinds of information from when to buy a house to the best way to save for our children's college. We followed his advice and have never regretted it.

for me, it was at the hall.

i felt a kind of mental surge within me brewing and i got and went to the men?s room.
2 part process:
During my last judicial committee mtg the elders gave me a choice, break of with my then boyfriend and get private reproof, or stay with him and get DF'd. I just knew - no matter what happened with my then boyfriend, I did NOT want to be at the kingdom hall any longer - so I told them no and I walked out.
I still had the JW mindset for a long time though - years - until I read crisis of conscience, then started researching the history of JW's. That was the ticket to freedom for me.
Oh yea......and the boyfriend........now my husband for 8 years. Good trade I'd say!

Congrats!! I bet you will love college. I have really enjoyed learning so much - anthropology, psychology, sociology, etc. It was all VERY enlightening to me.

here in oz we?re enjoying the summer heat with blue skies and light breezes.
#1 & #8. We also generally had them over for lunch or dinner. Not a relaxed atmosphere that's for sure - I always felt like I was walking on egg shells to say and do the right thing during the meal.
I would much rather enjoy a glass of wine kicked back in comfy clothes with a few of the posters here!
