  they enforce the rules without compassion, dogma without dignity and punish with glee - it keeps the others in line.

  Men who could not "make it" in the "world" can become "big wheels" in the JW community. My own dad is an example of this phenomenon. He is a nice guy, but lacks the know-how it be effective as a leader in the business world where he worked for many years; yet he has been a congregation servant and elder for over 60 years. He is a "society man" through and through. His "Bible" is everything printed by the WTS, though he has a way of forgetting the old stuff

  That's what I was thinking as I read this thread.

  The sad thing is that the elders (most of them anyways) completely miss the point. They are supposed to be the servants to the congreation. The shepherd does all the nasty work of feeding, cleaning protecting, etc - the sheep don't work for the shepherd - it's the other way around. And the shepherd NEVER puts a sheep out to the wolves on purpose. But Jesus fortold that wolves would come in and not treat the sheep with kindness -- the JW's are a perfect example of this in action. The jw elders wolves have taken over so they can devour the sheep.

  Live your life

  i just got off the phone to a friend who was at a wedding last saturday.

  it was a sad day because the groom had cancer and only had a year or so to live.

  they had a family party on the sunday and he died suddenly there.

  I want to go out and life my life as much as I can.

  Yes yes yes!! Do it. We all put aside so many things we wanted to do - but it's not too late to start living. I went back to school to finish my bachelor's degree and started taking jazz dance lessons - two things I wanted to do most. Next year I have made plans to learn how to kayak with my son (something new that looks like fun), and the year after that I want to learn to scuba dive, and the year after that I plan to take culinary art classes on the side just for fun. My plan is to continue learning something new every year of my life.

  I am so in love with life now - it's fun, it's interesting, it's exciting -- I wasted a lot of years but I'm making up for lost time. So get to it and enjoy your life.

  When we put it out of mind and peacefully carry on according to God’s will, that "butterfly" will come and settle on our shoulder.

  ...and before we realize what we have done our subconscius mind, thinking that it could perhaps be a spider crawling on our shoulder, will send a message to our hand to smack the insect with enough force to flatten it. Yep......then we can go back to being sad again while we wait for another damn butterfly.

  It's not in latin - it's a form of Arabic that was spoken in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus' life. I think it's called Aramaic?? Can't remember now....

  I plan to see it.......if it's ever released. Did anyone here see the movie clip on it? It's definately graphic - while I plan to see it I won't let my children see it - too bloody.

  I only have a few - I buy them, read them, and then pass them on to others that I think might benefit

  I have kept a couple of bible translations, the Greek Interlinear (WTBS book - comes in handy with discussions about the NWT), and a book called Answers to Tough Questions from Josh McDowell.

  Mine was when my father told me I could read the bible but I would never understand it without the help of the "faithful and discrete slave" - something clicked - I saw right through it and knew they were elevating themselves above the holy spirit.

  Poor dad - he tried so hard to convince me to come back - he never knew it was one of his own comments that actually sealed the deal.

  Do you still love your relatives/friends who shun you?

  as i was participating in my daily duties of domestic slavery i got to ruminating about my mom, sister and brother who are shunning me (even though i am neither df'd of da'd).

  i got to thinking to myself that i don't really miss them all that much.

  in fact; i almost feel that i have lost the abundance of love that i once felt for them...well, except for my brother who i have never gotten along with anyway.

  I think you are correct in that part of your response is a protection factor. Also, love has to be fed to grow and if they're not feeding it then it's bound to shrink.

  My family uses the shunning only when it's convenient for them. I'm not invited to their parties - but they have no problem contacting me when they need help......................oh well - I continue to help them when I'm able to do it because I feel that I should act christian even when I don't want to.

  The generation problem resolved........I'll submit this to the borg for next Watchtower. Get your colored highlighters ready!

  Since this generation now knows "how" armageddon would come AND "when", it is as though they have actually witnessed the event first hand. Just as Jesus stated in John 8:56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad". Abraham did not actually see Jesus day - but having detailed information in advance of Jesus coming was as though he was there in person witnessing the events. So, in essence, Jesus' words in Matthew that "this generation of 1914 will not pass away until all these things have occurred" refers to the knowledge of these events to unfold at a future date.

  With Armageddon appearing to be far out on the horrizon does this mean that we as true Christians can relax our stand? On the contrary! This information should spur us on to more field service activity. Now is not the time to be sidetracked by the daily things of the world - the devil is wandering as a roaring lion seeking to devour someone. And we, having the true faith, must always be on guard so as not to loose out in the race for eternal life.

  So........how'd I do? Think the borg will hire me? Ohhhhhh I can hardly wait to give up my high paying job for a $20 allowance and a dorm room! (Dawn...waiting by the phone with excitment.....)

  i'm alive and well, the best i've ever been, in fact.
