Still refer to the jw bible?

since most here are ex jw's, do you use/refer the new world translation of the jw's; or another christian bible, if any bible at all?

ive heard there is a satanic bible also..

You're right about that! And the funny thing is.....once I started actually reading the bible for myself (without the help of the WT thank you) it all seemed so much simpler. Religion is man-made....God is above that.

I use the NIV and the New American Standard. But I found another book that helped me out when I first started - it's the "Idiot's guide to the Bible" - sounds funny I know, but it takes the bible chapter by chapter and explains what's happening in an easy format. I found it helpful to see the entire bible from a point of view other than the borg. After I read that - then I read the book of John out of the Bible. It made a whole lot more sense.

Anti-Vaccination

i recently spoke with a few new mothers who are adamantly against vaccination.

they went on and on about horrible dangers associated with vaccinating your children.. even after listening to their stories i am very doubtful of the validity of the claims.

what is your view on this if you have one?.

I think people only look at the risk of having vaccination and don't properly consider the risk or consequences of not having them

I agree - if people stop getting vaccinations then the diseas can cause more problems than the vaccines.

I think it's best not to go too far one way or the other....get the vaccinations that are important - do your research - ask your dr. questions. I got my kids vaccinated for the main diseases, DTP and also Hep B. I also have been vaccinated against HepB as my last job required it - I handled evidence (and sometimes it had icky stuff on it)

I don't do flu shots.

A Girl And Her Pig

well, its time for stock shows and cfb has shown her first pig at the city stock show.

she won the blue riboon and got a spot in the county stock show this coming weekend.

i am hoping to make it down for this weekend, but that may not happen.

A JW at my work, question?

there is a guy at work that i had heard was a jw, so i was working with him and we had a few laughs talking and joking around so i was starting to pry and get it out of him that he was a jw, also i had heard a few things and wanted to ask him as well.

so i asked what he did for christmas and he avoided the question and then i said, "oh yeah your a jehovahs witness" and he said he was, right after he said "but i got some good presents" (admitting your a jw seemed to be awkward for him) as he is the only jw in his family.

i told him that my parents were as well and my grandparents went to the same hall as he did many years ago.

Lately it seems like more and more are looking outside the org for mates.

Yea - 'cause there's none worth having IN the org. Think about it.....they aren't encouraged to go to college, don't think "outside their box" at all, and if you're not married by 19 you're an old maid. So if you're 21, have a mind, and want to succeed in life.....there is no hope of finding a decent mate inside the org.

Oh yea......and they can't give oral sx

.............so I married a wordly guy .

Really though - I had slept with hubby before we were married , but the elders told me if I broke up with him they would not DF me. I refused, so they DF'd me. I've been with hubby 14 years now and I think it was a good trade!

Beans - it might depend on the elders and the congregation as to how strong they will punish someone for dating outside the org.

Great story Tower Man! I remember the first time I knew the holy spirit was leading me...it was right after I prayed and was telling God all the questions I had about the JW doctrines but didn't know what to do about it - I still thought they were the "truth" and that I just had a bad heart. When I finished my prayer this thought came into my mind...and it felt like it had been placed there - not a thought from myself. It sad "Ask your qustions" - immediately I knew.....if this is the truth shouldn't it be able to stand up to any amount of scrutiny? I wasn't afraid to research anymore - instead, I was excited to get started. That was the beginning of freedom for me.

The Rainbow and the Flood?

there is evidence that the flood of noah's day was local.why then does the account mention that the rainbow is a visible sign from jehovah,a covenant promise that no more would "all flesh" be cut off by waters of a deluge,and no more would there occur a deluge to bring the earth ( land ) to ruin.

( genesis 9:11 - 16 ).. some commentators say that the rainbow had been seen before this and that the flood was only local.that being the case and from all the evidence presented here and on the internet,i believe that it was a local flood.

.why then this rainbow covenant,that never again would man be cut off and the earth, ( land ) be brought to ruin,when we see so much local flooding around the world and man being cut off and the land being ruined today?.

Well......I always had a problem with the global flood story anyways. Noah lets a bird out and it can't find anywhere to land - 7 days later he lets it out again and it comes back with a branch from a tree that has miraculously grown from seedling to leaf production and large enough for the bird to find.....in 7 days!

I think it is one of many stories that the Isrealites came up with to explain the world and where they came from. However - as I have said before....I don't think it's all junk either. I believe there is a message for us in the story if we're willing to keep an open mind.

i always have felt that the following expressions were stupid, why dont they just call it pro abortion, anti abortion.

anyway, knowing our backgrounds as jw's what is your viewpoint on this highly debated issue?

Pettygrudger......what an awful thing your girlfriend went through! You are truly a good friend to be there with her and help her through. How is she doing now? How long ago was this - has she talked about it since? It just sounds to me like one of those awfully traumatic events that impacts a person for the rest of their lives.
