I remember my Mom and Dad would always have a big decision to make when someone "wordly" died or got married." We would'nt go to the church but the reception. It really made me want to go into another church to see what the big deal was.

Lets go to the church but stand outside
by Wordly Andre ini am so sick of this!
i have a split family, some non-jw and some jw, and ever since i was a young kid, ive noticed this silly fear of entering a church, i remember i must have been about 9 years old when my uncle died and my family went to the funeral, but we stood outside, and even at that young age i remember it felt wrong, like we were disrespecting my dead uncle and his family.
like ive wrote on this board before, i told my parents when at 15 i didnt want to go to meetings anymore and was never baptized, when i was 18 my great uncle died and at the funeral i went into the church for mass, when it was over i walked outside all the rest of my family were outside waiting, they all gave me dirty looks like i was just caught with a prostitute.

I feel like I'm Living a lie!
by kgav8r ini believe i have come to realize that i am no better than the jdubs myself.
for about six weeks now i have been going to a book study with a friend of my girlfriend.
i act very interested, i give him the answers he wants to hear, i am the perfect and progressing study.

Yeah, seems almost jerky to me to keep studying knowing it is misleading the girl you are "so in love with."

My son is in love with a puzzle
by mrsjones5 inyesterday i bought my son (he's 2, soon to be 3 tomorrow) a $1 puzzle of united states.
i bought it because we have a much bigger floor puzzle of the us but it's too big for him to keep trying to put together, it gets in the way.
he instantly fell in love with the puzzle.

Remember when KH's had a piano and real singing?
by WingCommander inthe thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.

I loved hearing the piano when we first started going to meetings. 'These pianists are blessed' I thought. An elder's wife played the piano for every song for years. When the society came out with the taped music, he had a fit because his wife could no longer play the kingdom songs. It was a congregration issue for a long time. And yet when the circuit overseer came through the area, he would sit down and play kingdon songs, along with other tunes, before, after, and on Saturdays and Sundays at the kingdom hall. People, including myself, loved it!!
He is now a writer at Bethel!
Go figure?!

JW at the door...thanks for the tips...
by mama1119 inthis morning we had a fleet of jw in the neighborhood and they came a knockin...my husband answered the door, (as they would have recognized me..he is "wordly").
we used some of the tips off of the "how to get rid of a jw thread" he kept asking them if they were with the jehovahs and if they were a jehovah, they kept correcting him bless their souls and he kept doing it.
then, when they tried to place the mags he said, "first can i get your address?

She responded with something about respect and he said why dont you respect us by not knocking on our door in the morning". Then asked to be taken off their list...another thing that irritates them!!!!

What Are Unwritten Rules & Understandings That "Good" JWs Will Adhere To?
by minimus injt, made a very good point in a different thread regarding how witnesses follow unwritten rules and understandings.
for example, a witness may shun you----even though you're not disfellowshipped or disassociated.
because they know you're leading an immoral life or that you smoke.

My dad used to have several witnes employees that automatically left early on meeting nights, as if it was just a given. My Dad finally caught on to it and there actual defense was "we thought it wsa a given". They got fired. And then started working under the table for another "brother" while collecting unemployment. Good little witnesses..

And I know another girl whose Mother would just not let it go. She was out for 6 years, having kids, living with dudes and whatnot and was reinstated within 3 months of attending again. Poor Thing!
