2 year old daughter slips from mothers grip

here in southern california we have been just pummeled with rain.. here is the saddest story that i have heard here.. a lady is driving her vehicle with her 2 year old, and i think a 10 and 14 year old.

along comes a barrier, blocking people from driving through a flooded street.

she decides to go around the barrier, and gets stuck.

I feel bad for the loss this woman has but I believe she should be charged with the death of her child. More than that I feel sorry for the child who was lost and others also effected by this tragedy.

Here where I live we have a law specifically dealing with going around barriers set up to stop motorists from going into flooded areas. It is called the "Stupid Motorist law." This woman made the decision to go around this barrier fully knowing that it was there for a reason. She was stupid enough to make her own decision apparently thinking she knew more than the experts who put up the barrier. Here you are responsible for any adverse consequences that occur from this action. You are responsible for property damage, harm done to others, the cost of rescue and then you get fined or jailed (as in cases that involved a death).

I compare this with a person who makes a decision to drink and then drive. Then went on to break the law further and get a ticket or worse... by bringing harm to others. This person in their "saner" moments chose this action. I have heard of many cases where the defense in a jury has tried to say this person was not responsible for their action because they were impaired. I say they ARE responsible because they were not impaired when they chose the action they took.

CHRISTMAS DAY FIELD SERVICE

did you ever go out on the service christmas day.

i always refused to, i mean even sinners deserved a day off from us calling.lol seriously i was too embarressed to.

my husband got "forced" one year and said never again.

I absolutely hated going D2D on holidays. Christmas was especially hard for me. I remember having Christmas and then it being RIPPED from me without my consent. When I went out in service I hated it because I was confronted with what I had at one time and also dealt with people who were having a grand time and all I had was going D2D, which I hated anyway.

Does the averageJW really believe it is the truth?

i ask this question because the average jw does not show true love though they are commanded to do so.

the average jw often confesses that the meetings are quite boring.

the average jw complains about almost everything within the org.

I believed in it ten-fold...until no one, except one CO, believed that I was being abused. Even at that point it was glossed over and ignored. I think generally people believe it is the truth until the "truth" hits you smack dab in the middle of the forehead. It is so easy to be swayed by the "love" being shown by the ones in your congregation. Many do not realise when they are experiencing that, that it is conditional.

I think that you do believe until something smarks "rational" thinking. I was told years ago by an elder in my congregation that "if you look around you see that we are a group of misfits". This did not hit home t me until I was out. Of course we are a group of misfits...it takes a person who is a "misfit" to fall for the "false sense of security" that the witlesses offer.

I remember one family who was contacted door-to-door. It was amazing! They had a constant stream of people at their door. But...when they got baptised...no one showed up. It was when they were trapped that they realised that they were duped. He eventually went on to become a servant despite their misgivings. I remember distinctly what happened when they left. At the time I was both appalled and held great respect for the man. His last part in the service meeting he addressed the lack of love in the congregation, despite the fact that his "part" had nothing to do with that. Way to go Joe!!!

DID ANY ELDER DO anything questionable?

i have read ozziepost's post on those tasmanian elders who raided a sda church.. does anyone know of similiar behaviour by elders?

In one congregation that I was in in upstate NY my ex who was being brought up before the body of elders for questionable business practices (which he did) cornered one of the elders about his practice of carrying 2 sets of books while he worked for the same company. Needless to say my ex did not get into any trouble.

In this same congregation there was an elder who was in his mid-30's who actively pursued a 17 year old female. He lost his position which I agreed he should have. At this time he was also very into internet porn and alcohol. But to my consternation less than 2 years later he is an elder again. From what I hear he has been approached to be a circuit overseer.

This man is an Uncle to my daughters by marraige. I talked to one of my daughters and she said she can try to help but wonders what information is needed.
