Slow brain syndrome....I think I figured it out, maybe....my guess is that the elders, hearing about the vigil, contacted the WTS Legal department and were advised to stay away. Or, they asked advice from the CO and he advised them similarly. Just a guess.

Maybe JR has the same problem that Baal had in 1 Kings 18: 27...perhaps he "is concerned with a matter, and he has excrement and has to go to the privy".

e-mail fw'd by jws discusses pedophile issue
by DB ini recieved a forwarded e-mail from a jw today which discusses the pedophile issue and bill bowen.
unfortunately, i don't know how to post it here.
it quotes bowen and some of his concerns, and contains one statement, presumably by jr brown or another wts representative, saying that jws do not condone such abuse.

SYN, I will try e-mailing it to you tomorrow.
My computer is licensed in my name, and I don't care if it's easy to do or not, I am not posting it here.
It's the article that ran in the Paduca Sun-Times about a year ago that was posted at the CNBC site. It's nothing that we haven't seen here a thousand times. My point was that jws are reading and circulating this stuff. It's of interest that they are willing to do so. I'd don't think the exact content matters all that much. I can verify that the article was accurate because I have seen it before.

I tried to copy, but I am not very good at this stuff. Also, everything that leaves this computer has my full name on it, which would be obviously recognizable by any jws who lurk here. I am not sure how to copy something over without my name attached. Fear of jw repirsal keeps me from taking that risk. Sad, isn't it?

I recieved a forwarded e-mail from a jw today which discusses the pedophile issue and Bill Bowen. Unfortunately, I don't know how to post it here. It quotes Bowen and some of his concerns, and contains one statement, presumably by JR Brown or another WTS representative, saying that jws do not condone such abuse. I fw'd it to some here privately.
The names on the fw list were mostly, if not all, those of jws. And this message was sent to myself and about 20 more jws, so word is spreading, and this subject will be discussed, though with what results is anyone's guess.
Good day :) DB

Depressed or suicidal? Do NOT call a doctor!
by flower in*** awake!
1975 august 22 p.25 *** .
is the turning of people from the clergy to the psychiatrists a healthy phenomenon?

Hi Flower, interesting post. Well, 27 years after this article, what do we see? For one thing, many jws themselves have realized that elders are simply not qualified to handle cases of depression, abuse (both spousal and child), anxiety, anger issues, and many other personal or family situaions. Many jws have realized that simply seeing a doctor or getting counseling is what really helped.
Also, the quote you cite seems to imply that a person who goes to the elders for help could well expect reproof instead, which would do more harm than good, and has been at the core of the child abuse issue that has been lighting of this board lately.
Also, at an elder's school I attended a few years back, we were reminded by the Society that we were not Mental Health practicioners. So even they have come to admit to some degree that elders are just not qualified to handle some issues.
The fact is, as you and most posters here know, when elders have gotten involved in such matters, the results are in many cases disasterous. So many people have been hurt because these men are simply noy equipped to handle such matters, and then when they attempt to do so, often leave the recipient of their counsel feeling bewildered, rejected, and at fault.

LETTERS TO BOE/DON"T WATCH DATELINE?
by ARoarer inhas anyone seen or heard of any letters going out from headquarters to the body of elders directing them to inform the congregations not to watch dateline?
i was wondering if this is really true or just a rumor.
if it is true, this is terrible that they can actually deny members freedom of press or punishment.

Hi terafera,
I don't think a date has been announced yet for the airing of the Dateline show. I'm going to check the NBC website and also check here, since Bill Bowen would no doubt post it as soon as he found out.
Take care! :)
