“Even if this wasn’t the Truth, I need the structure.”

i remember many years back a fellow ministerial servant saying this to me.

he felt that even if jehovah’s witnesses were not the only true religion, the regimented routine of meetings and field service and the strict rules and enforcement provided a beneficial structure for his life.

at the time i thought if this wasn’t “the truth”, i’d have no need for all that “structure”.

Lots of people need and crave structure, but that doesn't make your personal choice of systematic structure either correct or desirable.

Jehovah's Witnesses and language worlds.

i was born in as a witness, left at the age of 28, and have been out for many years now.

i'm a writer and am writing about witnesses but from the perspective of how they control followers through the use of language.

it's only after studying a lot of literary theory that i've realised a lot of their mechanisms of control are through using language in a particular way.

After reading many of the comments here, it occurs to me that many Jehovah's Witness parents are not really 'footstep followers of Christ'.

we can tell by the old testament and other writings that the jews and israelites used a lunar calendar.

thier neighbor to the east eventually switched away from a lunar to a solar calendar.

experts don't know exactly when but the egyptians watching the star sirius were able to make the change as early as 2700 bc or possibly as late as about 1100 bc.

Jehovah was just waiting for his son Jesus to be enthroned as earths King in 1914 in order to introduce the 'real' time keeping calendar to his faithful followers. Unfortunately , Judge Rutherford was pissed off that an angel gave the calendar idea to C.J. Woodworth and not to him, so he put the kibosh to it. We may have to wait another generation until the new 'overlapping calendars' teaching can be introduced.

Letter # 1 to the Governing Body of Jehovah's witnesses

i also hope that brothers on the writing committee who may be lurking on this site (and have some clout) read my letter and bring in change to this very flawed policy around confession of sins.. enjoy.

No UNSOLICITED information or opinions are ever presented to the entire Governing Body(tm)...........EVER. Your letter is naïve at best. Sorry to be so blunt but you are 'pissing up a rope' if you think anyone at Watchtower headquarters would even give this letter a first glance.
