putting it simply, kingdom halls are no longer the property of a local group of the folks that paid for and constructed it.

Add eminent domain and the ability to evict Jehovah's Witness congregants from their Kingdom Halls (which they usually built with their own hands and money) as one of the new powers of the Governing Body (tm).
i think this may be a bigger issue for the society than we realise.. when you consider that witnesses have now had well over a year of regularly seeing their 'channel to god' with their own eyes, what do you think they're thinking?.
i'm going to put this as respectfully as i can; these men are clearly a bunch of utter clowns who are laughably inadequate to present a tv show, but also, they are now ridiculously discredited due to the absolute shite that they've spoken in these laughable productions.. consider things from a jw's perspective; tony morris, stephen lett & geoffrey jackson are 'the channel' that makes their religion 'special'.

i remember the elders in my cong didn't like if a single brother and single sister walked in the parking lot together after the meeting ended, to their car.
you couldn't hold the mic or give a talk without a coat (that might be a universal jw rule).

The Jehovah's Witness religious system is based FIRMLY on the principles of PATERNALISM and ARROGANCE. These principles compliment and reinforce each other so that each individual indoctrinated witness comes to believe that when the organization 'speaks' .........it is 'for their own good'. Blondie has rightly pointed out that this basically boils down to 'control'.
it's not as if the sheep was trying to seduce the shepherd, the poor creature was violated.
we have come a long way from those days, thank goodness.

in the 1960`s when i was a new convert , a 20 year old , i devoured the book "jehovahs witnesses in the divine purpose" outlining the early history of the restoration of true christianity in the world.it helped to convince me then that this was indeed the true religion......not that i remember much of the details it contained nowadays .. i understand there was a poor attempt to mimic it with the " proclaimers " book a much sanitized version of the early history of the jw religion.
what reputable organization in the world ,secular ,religious or otherwise ,doctors their own early history/ beginnings unless they have something to hide or are ashamed of.. how many jw`s today would know that they were formed as the " international bible students association" in the late 1800`s , or that their first president of that association was none other than w.h.conley ,and not c.t.russell.. does it even matter ?
does anybody really care ?.
in their sick and twisted bubble that they live in, the jehovahs witnesses clearly have no idea about the logistical nightmare of disposing of 7.5 billion corpses.. when i heard an elder once say that it will be a joy to clear away the wicked from the earth, he actually had a smile on his face.. can they even begin to imagine what 7.5 billion dead men, women, children & babies looks like?.

shepherd the flock page 91. i remember this is one of the first things that concerned me as an elder because it seemed to sound like a person is guilty until proven innocent rather than 'love believes all things', especially given the word 'convinced' appears in bold.. then in a training video one elder said something like 'unless we are convinced of repentance the shepherd the flock book says we must disfellowship'.
that was the begining of the end for me as i thought surely true christians would reason the other way round and show mercy wherever possible.. any thoughts?.
This attitude fostered by the 'Organization' has always been a thorn in my side. When I was a new Bethelite attending 'Bethel Entrants School' our lessons were derived from the early version of the 'Flock Book'. The class was presented with three scenarios of individuals who had sinned and were to be judged by the 'Service Committee'. Out of a class of approximately 20 brothers, ALL accept me voted that each person should be disfellowshipped in order to 'keep the organization clean'. Each instance, I voted that the person should always be shown mercy the first time and that if they were a wicked sinner, time would bear out their bad course and THEN action should be taken.
The Jehovah's Witness religion is built on two principles:
1. Self-righteous arrogance because they alone possess the TRUTH.
2. Paternalism and the belief that humans need to be 'controlled' and that the 'Organization' has the right to do the controlling.
