Yes, I too know of a situation of two older Witness women that have lived together for years and sleep in the same bed. The Elders are very aware of this situation but turn a blind eye. In fact, one of the women is great friends with one of the Elders that was on the committee that disfellowshipped her back in the '70s for having lesbian sex! At any rate, one of the advantages of being known as a fader in my community is that people don't hold back from telling me how they feel about individual Witnesses. A local ex-Hippie type (very accepting and very liberal) has said to me: 'Oh yeah, Jane and Jean (not their real names) are classic text book Lesbians!'. So much for upholding Jehovah's morally 'clean' name in the local community.

Refusing to become an elder
by ragingmad ini know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them.
is this considered refusing advancement by god, or just choosing your own way?
he has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one..

The Telephone we take for granted!
by TerryWalstrom inmarch 10, 1876: “mr.
watson —come here—i want to see you” the voice of alexander graham bell is transmitted.
he wasn't the first to invent it but the first to own a patent.. in 1910 telephone "subscribers" had 4 digit telephone numbers.soon, larger cities had 5 digit numbers.mark twain was one of the first to have a phone in his home.. the first phones had no dials or buttons.

I am 63 years old this month and do not have a cell phone. In many ways I resist the over mechanization of society and the creation of a techno-human being culture. As an interesting side note, I live about 2 hours from the last town in the United States to give up the crank phone. Bryant Pond Maine gave up the crank phone for dial-up service in October of 1983!

Could the ancient Jews eat pig fractions?
by JeffT inthe recent threads on blood fractions got me to thinking about ways to expose the absurdity of the watchtower's position on blood.
so i thought of the titular question.
would a hebrew have understood the prohibition on pork as meaning he had to avoid "major" pig fractions (ham, bacon, ribs) but "minor" pig fractions like pickled feet and fried pork rinds were ok?

Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Baker Who Refused to Bake Cake for Gay Couple
by Simon inseems like such an obviously correct decision to overturn the previous overreach - it should never have been necessary to go to the supreme court but happened because the rights of the religious were being ignored.. as the fundamental level, no one should be able to compel you to work for them or to provide services that go against your beliefs, and certainly not have the government be able to force you to comply.. if this was allowed there would be so many unreconcilable situations that would clog up courts over nonsense.. i also have little patience for these activists that intentionally look to be offended.
it really doesn't do their cause any good to go round looking to make trouble for people.
it's also misguided because it ends up strengthening religious rights over effectively stupid issues.. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/04/us/politics/supreme-court-sides-with-baker-who-turned-away-gay-couple.html.

The issue is really quite simple:
If I own a 'convenience store' and do not sell beer or alcoholic beverages in any form because of my conscience views on the matter, that is my choice. A customer can not enter my store and claim that since I sell other forms of liquid refreshment, that I MUST provide them with an alcoholic beverage because it is the customers right to consume alcoholic beverages. The government does not have the right to compel me to provide goods and services that I do not wish to provide to the public. I have my rights and the consumer of alcohol has theirs. I do not wish to compel the drinker to stop drinking but do have a right not to provide the alcohol to him.
It is the same with the owner of the bakery. He did not wish to stop the gay people from living their chosen lifestyle but felt it was his right to not bake a gay themed wedding cake. LoveUniHateExams is pointing out one of the fundamental functions of a 'free market'. Buyers and sellers in the market place both have choices and are rewarded or punished by the market because of the choices that they make. Gay people should realize how lucky some of them are to live in a tolerant Western society that accords them the dignity and rights equal to that of their fellow citizens. Now gay people should realize that others have rights and free choice also and that even those who disagree with them should not be compelled to do their bidding.
