I am in the automotive aftermarket business and my main supplier is in to this BIG TIME. To make matters worse, my supplier pre-bills us for these charity campaigns. We are charged on our statement for participating in this fraud and we have to sign a form if we want to opt-out and not participate! If we don't participate we are considered not to be team players. This morning, I opened our company email only to find another one of these requests from one of our vendors. If I want to donate to a cause, I will do so privately and anonymously.

Corporate Virtue Signalling At Your Expense
by Simon inthe latest trend seems to be that you can't go to any store without being asked for money.. no, not the money for the things you went in there to purchase, extra money for the store to donate to charity.. yes, that's right, the big-name stores, often making $millions in profits, ask you to give them extra money so that they can give it to charity and get some publicity about how awesome they are so that they'll look good to their customers, like, erm, you.. it seems to have ramped up more in the last year or so and frankly, it pisses me off.
if i want to donate to some cause, i'll give the money straight to them.
i hate that it puts people on the spot to guilt them into donating and imagine some people on a tight budget may give even when they can't really afford it.. often you don't know what the charities really are (it's vague like "to help children") or how the money will be spent or even how much will go on the people it's supposedly to help (charity is a multi $billion industry, some just exist to pay themselves).. so what to do?

Lyman Swingle swore like a pirate. The language he used would get any other rank and file Witness disfellowshipped. I still liked him, though.

" What? It certainly IS ok to offend. At least in the USA. In this country, everyone has the right to offend. Being offensive, while not "polite", is still okay." - Jehalapeno 1 year ago
It's nice to see that you have grown as a sensitive human being over the last year. Perhaps being involved on this forum has done you some good.

Update:
About a month ago, one still in sister said that the new hall 'looks like a rip off of Starbucks'. And another still in sister said it looks like 'a cheap taco stand'.

Yes, I too know of a situation of two older Witness women that have lived together for years and sleep in the same bed. The Elders are very aware of this situation but turn a blind eye. In fact, one of the women is great friends with one of the Elders that was on the committee that disfellowshipped her back in the '70s for having lesbian sex! At any rate, one of the advantages of being known as a fader in my community is that people don't hold back from telling me how they feel about individual Witnesses. A local ex-Hippie type (very accepting and very liberal) has said to me: 'Oh yeah, Jane and Jean (not their real names) are classic text book Lesbians!'. So much for upholding Jehovah's morally 'clean' name in the local community.

Refusing to become an elder
by ragingmad ini know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them.
is this considered refusing advancement by god, or just choosing your own way?
he has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one..

"Refusing to become an elder."
Been there. Done that. It makes for an easier fade.
