In the Spring of 1974 I was out in service with the kindest, most down to earth Elder you would ever want to meet. He said 'Sparky, hang in there. It won't be too many more months before Armageddon comes.' That Summer I was 'called' to Bethel and he died in the Fall of 1975 while I was still there.
In the first week of March 2000, my mother was in intensive care in the hospital. She had been in the hospital since November 1999. She said to me 'Sparky, just get me home. I know that Armageddon will be here in a few weeks. I have been watching the news and things can't get any worse.' She died on March 20, 2000 never going home again and never seeing her beloved Armageddon.
I have been hearing that Armageddon will be here 'any day now' since I was a baby.If I had a dollar for every time I heard that inane phrase, I'd be rich beyond my wildest dreams.
i've been watching quite a bit of gb member stephen lett on youtube recently (no, i'm not thinking of going back to the jws).. i just find him compulsive viewing, like when people slow down to see a car crash.
i find his facial expressions and intonation spell-binding.. it reminds me a bit of john carpenter's the thing, a film where an alien life-form infects a host and imitates it, spreading throughout camps of remote workers in the antarctic.
if i were a bethelite living in close proximity to lett, i'd be thinking about giving him the blood test to see if he was normal, lol.. why does lett speak in public the way he does?

By God, I think you're on to something!
so noah was a preacher of righteousness.
than how did he warn other pockets of civilizations that were hundreds or thousands of miles away?
and if they were destroyed anyway i thought jehovah only acts after he gives clear warning.. and if there were no other civilzations why the need to destroy the entire earth of every living creature?
Alexey Fyodorovitch went away. Kostya, with a very serious face, sat down to the table and drew the Scripture history towards him.
"Well," he said; "where have you got to?"
"She knows about the Flood," said Sasha.
"The Flood? All right. Let's peg in at the Flood. Fire away about the Flood." Kostya skimmed through a brief description of the Flood in the book, and said: "I must remark that there really never was a flood such as is described here. And there was no such person as Noah. Some thousands of years before the birth of Christ, there was an extraordinary inundation of the earth, and that's not only mentioned in the Jewish Bible, but in the books of other ancient peoples: the Greeks, the Chaldeans, the Hindoos. But whatever the inundation may have been, it couldn't have covered the whole earth. It may have flooded the plains, but the mountains must have remained. You can read this book, of course, but don't put too much faith in it." - THREE YEARS by Anton Chekhov
sometimes theists challenge atheists about what evidence would be required before they would believe.
various unlikely scenarios are offered in reply.
i have taken the bait myself in the past.. i think the correct answer is much more ordinary.

"There's no official position from Catholic Church about why Jesus was killed." - John_Mann
I think that the Catholic Church would disagree with you on that point.

i was raised in the religion and for the most part believed that my religion was truth.
i recognized some mistakes were occasionally made but felt that nobody is perfect.
then i smartened up and realized how dumb so many of the beliefs are....was there ever a time that you truly believed you had the "truth"?.
Between approximately 3 to 6 years old, I was a true believer. At least that is what my mother told me. I went out in 'service' alone at 5 years old in our neighborhood. When I hit about 7 years old I knew the 'jig was up' after reading THE PHOTO DRAMA of CREATION. It was downhill from there! I played the game for sake of family and friends and because the Congregation Servant and Bible Study Servant told me to put my questions aside as they will all be answered after 1975 when Armageddon takes care of all our problems. So I became a Pioneer, Bethelite, and Ministerial Servant. Finally, when offered the 'position' of congregation secretary so that I could be appointed an Elder that Fall..................................I turned it down and started my long fade. True believer? Never as a rational, thinking Adult.
