  Bronchitis and the thoughts of a gal on medication...lol

  ok, let me see.... i have screwed up really bad last month at work.. i have a broken relationship.. broken trust .

  broken heart.... a broken car in my houshold.. i have whole lot of holes in my life right now...and to top it all off...my insurance decided to mess up on a prescription and when i went in today to fix it, the doctor slapped me with a gift of diagnosing to me that i have bronchitis.

  i never know i have it untill it is bad.

  Life continues to be a learning experience. I have been through (extended) family ructions over the past month or so through people deliberately miscommunicating - taking the approach in an argument "I'll see you and raise you" without worrying too much about the consequences or the truth of what is said. While trying to sort out the combatants (all adult, youngest 40, oldest 75) I realised that this "see you and raise you" had happened in my own relationship.

  Maybe I'm a slow learner, but I have learnt something that now helps me understand more about my wife and how to react in an argument.

  Don't know if this makes particualr sense, as I have left out a lot of the details.

  Sparkplug, hope you can get some sleep - steriods are a bastard when it comes to side effects - I have experienced many sleepless nights from Mrs HAL on steroids - can't help you with medication as the more medicines you take the more problems you seem to get. But massage seems to be a help.....

  Sparkplug,

  re steroids - better believe it. Mrs HAL has steroid resistant asthma which means that she takes 70 mg Prednisolone a day.

  Sorry to hear that you are on them, but they can help despite the side effects.

  Worst for Mrs HAL was munchies - one day went to Yum Cha (Chinese Lunch) & ate $70 worth. The usual was $30.

  All the best - life can be a real bitch at times, but when the sun comes out, it's worth it.

  Diagnosis - Skin Cancer......

  i had a lesion removed from my right cheek, just below the eye and to the right of my nose a week ago yesterday.

  doc did it in the office and indicated he did not think it was malignant - but sop requires a path test to confirm.

  it was malignant i was told today.

  Jeff,

  I do hope that all goes well for you - it is so important to follow skin cancer up.

  Has the Dr suggested any follow-up? It is becoming more common here to use PET / FDG as a diagnostic tool when melanona is detected. Expensive, but can give greater peace of mind or reduce the risk of undetected problem.

  How do you deal with telemarketers?

  We have a calling number display, so when a "Private" number comes up we don't answer. We are also on a do not call list.

  But

  Sometimes I do answer: a couple of scenes:

  1) Hello (allow 5 seconds of conversation then interrupt) Oh! Could you please hang on, I need to do something urgent. (Put phone down & come back an hour later)

  2) (Especially for Indian Call centres) After 20 seconds interrupt and ask "Where are you calling from" If they answer "Sydney" Start a discussion about the weather - opposite to what it is. When they tag along call them liars and tell them never to call back

  3) They ask for Mrs HAL. Unfortunately she has never been known as Mrs HAL. I then tell them that their database is corrupt (as there is no Mrs HAL) and then hang up

  But my elderly mother has the best line - she lets them go for 5-10 minutes & then tells them that she is 90+ and lives in a retirement village. She calls it a public service as she has stopped someone else's time being wasted.

  they don't write books like this anymore, and it is a shame!

  it shows how to set up a home chemistry lab and do interesting and educational experiments.

  How many "Chemisry Kids" went on to be chemists (NOT pharmacists or other imitations)?

  I did have a B App Sc degree from 1977, but worked in industry and government work as a chemist, although often end up in management roles (not preferred).

  It was my first chemistry book (at age 10).....I no longer have a copy, but now have a few hundred (less enjoyable) texts in its place. I particularly remember this book because of all the wonderful experiments one could not do because the ingredients were not available.

  Re 20 mule team borax, I worked for many years in a factory where we handled 40Kg sacks of 20 mule team borax - branded with the mule team logo.

  Newbies Introduce yourselves!

  ok, i have been in and out of here lately due to schedules.

  each time i log in there is a new member on the board.

  when i go to see who they are...usually there is nothing and everyone is doing great and jumping right into conversation...but i for one would like to know your stories...anyone care to share or just introduce themselves to everyone?.

  Been here for a while, but access severely limited due to work firewalls and not wishing to attract attention at home. (Tuesday night - guess why I can post)

  Not a JW never have been. My wife has been studying since about 2000 but not baptised. She is the ultimate procrastinator - resson for nor being baptised. I have issues with some of the stuff that the JW's put out, especially false prophecy and their "we are the only path"mentality - I hope to put a more balanced view to my wife, & so do not wish to be "sprung" on this board. Also have had some experiences in trying to help kids of JW's who try to witness in science class and present regurgitated crap to their teacher - & especially when the parents regard the minimal mark that their junior acolyte receives as discrimination.

  I do tend to get worked up and come here whenever I can to let loose. Bur not often enough! Details provided are accurate though!

  kero-kero's goodbye post brought me to mind a common complaint amongst jw apologists, that all we do is bring up the bad stuff and old history.

  after all, "nobody's perfect".

  well, that would be fine and dandy if the wtbts hadn't set themselves up as the sole mouthpiece for jehovah in these 'last days'.

  I frequently get informed of the shortcomings of various religions, especially the Catholic Church by my "bible study" wife. Great explanations of how things went wrong from the days of Constantine etc.

  BUT

  Don't raise any questions re false prophecy, or unloving behaviour. After all it is God's Organisation.
