I had a foot in both camps -part of me believed the big A would come - the other part said no as we don't know 'the hour or day' etc and the words of the ridiculers taunting that all things are continuing on as usual. Just prior to 1975, I went to see the movie Earthquake and after seeing it I was too scared to leave the house as I connected some of the scenes with Armageddon. Ha!
The end will happen as I do still believe the Bible to be true. From what I've researched - but not from WT - I'd say in the next 30 yrs and I'll be seeing it through the windows of a nursing home by then.

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

Is marriage over ?- UK looks at extending similar rights to co-habitees
by Qcmbr inmy wife and i (ironically) have just sat discussing some of the implications of extending rights normally associated with marriage to co-habiting couples (rights such as division of assets and right to maintenance payments etc..) following hot on the heels of two big wins for very rich divorcees that change uk law (for very high earners) which makes marriage far less financially desirable for a rich person and looking back to such landmark changes such as the abolition of the married persons tax allowance does there seem any point or hope for marriage?
it also seems a bit unfair to those who decided not to get married (for whatever reason) to suddenly be married in all but name.
thoughts?

Marriage the first time is still proving popular for young couples. For second-time around older people it's a different story. It scares the life out of them, particularly the men who have been dragged through the Family Court, lose access to their children, lost their house, more than half of their assets, (possessions) and have to pay their ex-wife child support until the children turn 18.
Yes, I think civil marriage is on the way out. People, older ones, are opting for 'shacking up' or 'living in sin'. Cohabiting is a more agreeable alternative for these ones. However, the pain's the same if it all ends again.

Alana,
A handy thing to have is the 'Melways' book of the map of Melbourne. This will get them around. As for where is a good area to live, well, I am assuming they will be renting? Good suburbs are Malvern, Caulfield, Camberwell, Glenhuntly, Glen Iris, with quick access to the city. Rent is high for a house in those areas.
For breathtaking scenery - the Dandenong Ranges and the Great Ocean Road, Lorne. All in the 'Melways' book/map.

The Challange of Faith
by truth_be_told ini stumbled on this site dong some research, i post now only for those you have not sinned against jehovah's holy spirit, since only jehovah knows this, some value might be taken form this.
i currently serve as the service overseer in my congregation, i have been an elder for over 10 years.. the fundmental issue that challanges every jw faith at some point are the imperfections of the wtbs, & those that take the lead sometimes make huge errors.
as a third generation jw with a huge network of elders, i have heard many bad things about those that take the lead.. some of these have effected myself and my family, this is the test, no different than what job faced, but it is more on the emotional and mental level.

TruthBeTold, "If you can't go to meetings, prayer and bible reading is the start to the way back to spirituality." I agree and this is what I do now. Problem is that the org. has always said that this is not enough and that we are unable to have a relationship with Jehovah except through 'God's channel'. Witchettygrub
