Would the Magi be going by Balaam’s prophecy at Numbers 24:17 “…..A star will certainly step forth out of Jacob, and a scepter will indeed rise out of Israel And verse 19 “And out of Jacob one will go subduing.” The scepter, (a symbol of authority held by a sovereign) referring to the future King, Jesus Christ. The origins of the Star of Bethlehem - was Satan really behind it?
by truthseeker inthere's an interesting dicsussion going on in channelc about the origins of the star of bethlehem.. "the wt continues to teach that the star was in fact a light from satan, who was seeking to kill the child jesus.
what i noted from actually reading the account, is that there is no justifiable proof from scripture, that what the wt teaches about that light being from satan, is true.".
....... and i have to concur.

I feel more at peace nowadays. No longer thinking to myself 'what a nice person he/she is and what a pity he/she isn't in-the-truth', better if he/she dies before the big A comes so he/she will get a resurrection. Gaaa! Yeah, the cataloguing days are over now. Witchettygrub

We went to church for the first time...
by megsmomma inken...first i saw your post, and i am sorry the church you tried wasn't for you.
i have been out of the jw's for about 7 1/2 years, and just now felt the urge to go to a church again....so take your time and do what feels right for you :) don't give up.....keep seeking, you will find.. so, about our experience...we went with a non-denominational.
we went with a big place...it reminded me of how the jw's assembly halls are...the decor and the seating.....and the ammount of people.

Isn't it just amazing how you discover that the WT is wrong again when you step inside the dreaded halls of Christendom! I too found that the music played moved me to tears. To actually hear the name Jehovah used in sermons was a surprise as well. Wonders will never cease. To top it off, the place was jam packed with normal comfortable looking people dressed in everyday gear. I felt the love of people and their love for God and Christ. Witchettygrub

Why did you choose the Alias that you did?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #663399; } .style2 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;} .style7 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #353185; } .style8 {color: #353185} --> why did you choose the alias that you did?
being curious about why people do or act the way they.
do led me to this discussion.

I wanted something uniquely Australian. Witchetty grubs were considered a delicacy by the Aboriginal people and part of their diet thousands of years ago. Apparently has a chicken-like flavor. Here's a receipe:
Place a dozen fresh witchetty grubs in some oil and saute for a while, then add a litre of stock, some crumbled chicken cubes, some dried onions, native peppercorns, and a bit of salt. Let this cook for half an hour or so and then add some cream. Finish off with a flour paste to thicken

PROOF JESUS DIED ON A CROSS
by Mary inwarning: some might find the descriptions here disturbing.
even though there is overwhelming evidence that jesus died on a cross and not an upright state, the organization still stubbornly clings to this feeble idea, siting of course, the ridiculous notion that, because the cross was a 'pagan symbol', jesus couldn't have died on it.
as if the romans gave a damn that the cross was pagan.

Mary great work/info, To think I once droned on in morbid detail about how Jesus died on a stake. As the Romans were pagan it's pretty obvious a cross would have been used! Witchettygrub

Bingo Lady Lee! Your first line here 'The information explosion on the internet became more accissible to people. JWs were searching at home and at work gathering whatever information they could. And they were beginning to see the holes.' The following 3 points you made are relevant for myself also. Witchettygrub

Hi Bigmouth (Pete)
You asked if he was a JW? No he wasn't. He had separated from his wife Bev of 28 years 12 months ago and was currently living with his new partner who was with him over in WA when the accident happened.
It's very sad on top of Steve Irwin earlier this week.

Garybuss take a bow for your posts. I had a deep belly chuckle at the first one.
More serious was your second one and the words 'I've seen my wife load up our babies in the car and head off to a meeting in a Dakota blizzard'. It brings to my mind the articles that have been in the Watchtower/Awake where people have crossed snake infested areas, flooded rivers or walked many miles in the one day and such like to attend at the KH. Almost as though they were in a trance like state.

Yeah, what a beaut bloke.
He loved life, the animal world. There was a re-run last night on the 'Enough Rope' abc television show with host Andrew Denton of how Steve met his wife and how he, in that very moment, knew that she was the one for him. He had such a gutsy attitude and a cheeky face.
It's a sad day for us Aussies today. We feel his loss very much.
