There are great memories here as I read through.
Way back I remember 'Elliot Ness' that gangster show, 'I Dream of Jeannie' and 'Dallas' with those shoulder pads and big hair.
Also got hooked on Kolchak, (Darren McGavin), 'The Night Stalker' 70's.

Shunning has been mentioned here and it made me think that a person given the boot from the cong would feel so bad when a former sis/bro crossed the road to avoid, turned around and walked out of a room/shop wherever, no funeral attendance...and generally considered as dead.
The loving thing to do would be to strive to get the person 'back into the fold' so to speak just as Jesus would.

Anyone interested in numerology?
by Sunnygal41 ini find such things fascinating.
feel free to share anything you care to.. as an example, i am sharing some information i found for the number 40:.
40 = 4 = humanity's movement through time to completion, closure.

It's said that life begins at 40.
There is no end to numbers - they go on to infinity like God.

At least the apostle Paul in Acts 20:9-10 stopped speaking when the young man fell down several storeys and apparently died (or nearly). Paul was compassionate and made sure the youth was conscious or brought back alive - whatever - and comfortable before he resumed talking.
Different days.

Do JWs really believe the end is near?
by keyser soze inor do they merely pay lip service to the idea?
i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.
but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

Intelligent witnesses would have a foot in both worlds, the spiritual - keeping their 'eye on the prize' - and also on their daily life such as putting money aside for their later years. The latter unheard of back in the 70's and 80's.

Scariest Movie you have ever seen?
by Layla33 ini know as exjws, probably for the most, there was a secret freedom in watching horror films without thinking you would have a demon as a bed buddy.. i am not very fond of every horror movie, but i will watch those that have an intelligent side to it and is not gore for the sake of gore.
like "the ring" got me going when i first watched it, just like "the blair witch project" did, which is more about suspense.
anyway, i never saw any of the saw movies, so i am going to try to watch saw iii tonight, since it is on showtime.

Recently watched 'The Descent' a group of women descend into a labryinth and never come out - claustrophobic.
Further back 'Alien'198o's the scene where the creature bursts out of the guy having lunch.

For years I felt duped. We all were duped.
Now I'm ready for aging and dying just like every other person and aiming to make the most of the time left.
Guess 'Christendom' has the last laugh at Jw's for their expectations.

what is supposedly resurrected at resurrection?
by iblowmynoseatyou inthis is an idea that really freaked me out when i was still "in".
i asked it several times in groups of friends, and i would get two reactions: confusion/not understanding, and silence/looking at the ground.
if you die, and your body disinegrates, and the soul doesnt live on; in fact, nothing lives on, then what is resurrected?

I believe we are more than our body. It's only a temporary place for the real person to be in in this life.
Farkel gave a good explanation - our memories, personal traits, 'downloaded' into a new body to begin life anew.
Aphrodite, in Rev. 21:4 doesn't it say that we won't remember the painful things that caused suffering will not be brought to one's mind? In that life to come, we won't be looking back, just going ahead.
