The Beginning of Brother and Sister So and So
by Gary1914 indo any of you remember when they used to call the brothers and sisters by their first name from the platform?
the organization was much smaller then and much more intimate than it is today and since we were all "friends" we called each other by our first names even from the platform.. well all that changed one day.
the way i heard it was that some sister whose husband was not in the truth persuaded him to attend the meeting with her one day.

Religion banned in the United States!
by freedom96 inyeah, i don't think so.. remember, that is what we were taught!
all religion, no matter which one, was going to banned, and then the end would come.. what about a country like the us where it was founded on religious freedom?
where you have many political leaders here and elsewhere for that matter claiming that they are christians.

To think that the US is going to outlaw religion is a crazy idea. If the WTS is still waiting for that, they will be waiting forever.

Meetings in hiding places
by JH inif one day the government would put an end to jw meetings, how do you think the watchtower would get organized to keep meetings going?
they told us that meetings would be held in houses or in secret places.
i dont know of any house big enough to accommodate 80+ people.

All you gotta do is listen to all the stories about how they do it in countries under ban.

Everyone knows you are not supposed to mix in the world, which she is clearly doing. What I don't like to see is them pretending to be good little JW's and doing what they are. Just quit the JW thing and get on with their career.

What if............
by freedom96 inthe wts always taught that there is absolutely no life anywhere in the universe except here on earth..
because the bible doesn't talk about it, therfore it don't exist.. seems to me that is rather poor logic.
i was talking to a friend of mine the other day, who is spiritually minded.

The WTS always taught that there is absolutely no life anywhere in the universe except here on earth.
Why??
Because the bible doesn't talk about it, therfore it don't exist.
Seems to me that is rather poor logic. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, who is spiritually minded. He goes to church every Sunday, good straight thinker, etc, and I respect his opinions. I told him what the WTS taught regarding this subject.
I told him that I certainly believe that there are other planets that are capable of sustaining life, and I think that there are no doubt other planets that do support at least plant life. Other life as we know it, I wasn't sure.
He told me that using the bible as a belief center, there is no reason not to believe that there are perhaps hundreds or more other planets just like ours. His thought was that just because the bible talks about life on planet earth, doesn' t automatically mean that there isn't life elsewhere.
That got me thinking. Maybe God is so huge and powerful, that there are indeed many other places that carry life. Who are we to think that we are all it?
That doesn't mean that I think there are green aliens out there going to try to take over our world. Just wondering, could it be that God has other projects out there besides us? If he created us, certainly he could create many more of us. If so, isn't that kind of exciting?

JW loopholes for visiting DF'd relatives
by MegaDude ini've noticed in my own situation and others that even though we are df'd or da'd, that occasionally our holier than thou jehovah witness relatives will deem it "appropriate" to visit.
this is after months or years of shunning in some cases.
this christmas my non-jw cousin came to visit from houston and stayed with us a few days.

I agree with larc. They try to justify it so they can see you. I do believe many witnesses are this way. They really want to associate, just the WTS (therefore God) says they cannot.

Did you have a Superiority Complex?
by JH inwhen you were an active witness, you were led to believe that you were saved, and the rest of the world was doomed to die at armageddon, did this make you feel superior to non witnesses?
from that point, did you develop a superiority complex over them?
now that you are out, do the witnesses give you the look as if you are only bird feed?
-

I never felt superior, and really just didn't want to think about witness stuff at all.

It is NOT The Watchtower Society anymore?!?
by email ini don't know if this has been posted recently but... .
i was just talking to a friend (a ms jw) that told me that he was told by the elders on a talk he was about to give that according to their last elders school there are instructions not to use the terms "the watchtower society" or "the society" or "the organization" anymore... but rather to now always use "the faithful and discreet slave" or "the slave"... .

I have not heard of the change either, but think about it. "The Society" "The Organization" sounds so cultish. It really does if you think about it.
But to refer to it as "The Faithful and Discreet Slave" makes me want to hurl!!
