The John Denver Issue, vote now.

this is for those of you who sent me a private message saying you dont believe me, your letting your old jw traits come out, you know, not believing things when the facts stare you in the face unless it comes from the org.

maybee you should go back and re join them.. to confirm what happened .

i was at a john denver concert in the uk many years ago, he asked all catholics to stand up, after he got them seated he did the same with church of england, then the same with a couple of other religions, after he asked all jw's to stand up he announced that the concert would not go on untill they had all left and he then left the stage.

The version that I heard was that during a concert, right before singing a patriotic song, he said he was going to do so, so if there were any witnesses in the audience, they could leave if they wish for that one song.

I DID go to a John Denver concert, and no, he never brought witnesses up at all. But, that was just one concert.

We all have been guilty of saying something at some point that I am sure we wish we didn't at a later time. So even if he did do what he is accused of, I will not let that change my thought of him as an entertainer.

When we think about it, what are the most sensitive subjects to a person? Religion, and politics. Well, the witnesses belong to a radical cultish religion, and thus refuse to have anything to do with politics. To many people, this is just unheard of. So I don't think it is unreasonable for someone, even Denver, to not understand, and say something about it.

As far as the Carson show, I can't help but think that all shows are taped somewhere, and if this did happen, there will be proof. As shown before, Denver was on the Tonight Show many, many times. I find it hard to believe that he would have been kicked off, and then returned. I heard about this rumour well before his last appearance in 1990.

it occurs to me that df'ing is the bottom line when it comes to being obedient.

I am a fan of anything that would keep friends and families together, regardless of personal religious beliefs.

Are you my Daddy?

here's my situation: .

i have four children (10,7,6,4).

my wife (now ex-wife) and i were not getting along very well five years ago.

It really depends on the relationship with the 4 year old. What sucks is she is probably going through a tough time, so to find out her daddy is not really her daddy would likely hurt her very much. So I don't think at this point I would say anything to her at all.

I would have to find out for my own knowledge though. After that, who knows what might happen. But I would have to know, for sure.

JW's are so quick to judge those who leave

major shock i know.. i called mom back and told her she better get her facts straight.

telling people that someone abandoned their own children is a very serious accusation.

that really pissed me off.

Many witnesses live a very sheltered life, so when someone leaves, gets df'd or whatever, rumours are quick to spread, as there is not much else going on.

Plus, the quicker they are to condemn, the better they can justify their life to themselves.

Was Johnny Carson pro JW?

does anyone remember one of his shows from the late 1970's when john denver was on the show?

i never saw the show but heard about it in the jw circle (urban legend??).

it was known that john denver hated jw's and during their bantering, carson asked denver about his asking jw's to leave during his concerts.

Comedians make jokes of nearly everything, so even if Carson told a few Witness jokes, it doesn't automatically mean that he did or did not like them.

I had heard that John Denver was not a fan of witnesses for their stance of neutrality. He was very patriotic. I went to a John Denver concert, and he never brought witnesses up at all.

someone informed me today that in two months time there will be a "special announcement" to all congregations.

everyone must be present at the kingdom hall for it.

my elders already know what it is, but won't tell me.

How did you feel about "apostates" when you were a devout JW?

when i was a devout jw i would literally look at "apostates" picketing the assemblies and want to spit at them because i hated them that much and felt that they were of satan.

i remember one time i saw an "apostate" walking from the assembly and a friend of mine an myself were actually talking about confronting him and telling him off.

i just cannot believe how much i hated "apostates" when i was a jw.

When I saw them sometimes at the assemblies, I was younger, and never paid too much attention to them.

I remember hearing about one group of them attending another church. The ringleader of them, had a name, that when spoke outloud, seemed to bring chills to everyone.
