Some people are naturally independent, and think for themselves. Others do not allow themselves to think different, for fear of consequences.

Are You/ Were You Careful To Follow Rules??
by minimus inwhen we were in the organization, i noticed that some persons wanted rules.
needed them!
there are people in society that also feel secure when they have stricter rules than not.

I only followed the WTS rules if I was around other witnesses.

Parenting - strict or relaxed
by TheListener inthis was inspired by satanus' thread about how can people leave the truth when they've been raised in it.. i was raised in the truth, or as some say i was raised around the truth and made it my own when i was baptized.
i know typical doublespeak from dubs.. which method of parenting will most likely result in your child being a stronger jw?
a strict parent who enforces family study, meeting attendance regardless of health, regular service, constant spiritual talk inserted into daily life, having dub families over a lot and creating situations for regular association with dub kids of a similar age and not allowing association with school and neighborhood kids.

I grew up in a very strict witness household. My dad was an elder just about the entire time. No walking the grey line with them. It was all about the organization.
My wife's family, were very easy going, with an elder dad and pioneer mom. I often refer to her upbringing in the hall as country club compared to mine.
In both cases, none of the children are witnesses and never will be again.

in about fifty-two minutes time...
by zaphod in...my gran, who has been a jw since the 1950's will be reproved publicly for speaking to her grand-daughter who is disfellowshipped.
she is 77 years old and i am worried that it will be the death of her.
the"truth" has been her life for nearly fifty years and she is still a regular publisher.. if she continues to commit this gross sin she will be disfellowshipped.. her daughter and son in law are to be disfellowshipped for the terrible sin of allowing their daughter to live under their roof since she left her husband.

It is situations like this that remind me that there is no way in hell that the WTS is God's earthly only organization.

Did You Have A Lot of "Friends" In The Organization?
by minimus inwere you associated with regularly?
did you have many friends?
were you the life of the party?

When I was a youth, I had very little friends in our own hall. Most of mine were in nearby halls. The congregation I attended was very strict, and not much fun.
Most of the people I hung out with have been long gone, basically due to distance, and time, not because of religious issues.

Good for you! I have taken martial arts for 16 years now, and yes, most of it is completely different than what the WTS teaches, and what many witnesses believe.
There is much benefit to the arts, and I encourage all who have an interest to try it.

Giving your life for a Brother or Sister, would you have done it?
by JH inoften, we hear that jw's would give their life for a brother or sister anywhere in the world.
the more i know jw's, the more i say, "heck no"!
since jw's believe in the resurrection, why bother?

I believe that without a doubt that most witnesses would not give their life for another witness, especially a stranger. I remember this being talked about on stage before, but come on, who are we kidding?
Give our life for a loved one, like a spouse or child, sure, but some other witness at the hall, or a complete stranger. I don't think so.

Attendant ever treat you like a child at convention?
by avishai inthe last straw for me was when an attendant grabbed 22 yr. old me at a cnvention and told me to come inside it was time for it to start.
i said no, and he got in my face.
anyone else get told what to do as an adult?
-

So many of the attendants seemed to love their job, as if they were above anyone else.
I did it once, and only because it made a good excuse not to have to sit through the entire assembly. I didn't bother anyone. I couldn't have cared less.

Did You Get All "Giddy" When You Saw A Fellow JW???
by minimus ini used to embarrassingly get a kick out of going to the conventions and seeing jw families proudly displaying their songbooks and literature strategicially placed in their automobiles for all to see.
some even woyld display yhwh in their windows.
meanwhile everyone in the car would watch to see if other witnesses would notice and give them a joyful wave.

Though my parents were gung ho witnesses, I never remember them putting the magazines in the windows, but I do remember seeing others do it on the way to the assembly. I guess at 8y years old it was exciting.

You can check out student loans. If you are a full time student they can also give you some money for living expenses.
