i remember hearing a long time ago that "apostates" were spreading lies that the governing body members were all rich and had huge extravagant homes.
is there truth to theses stories?
if so, is there evidence?
My understanding is that they have pretty nice suites there at Bethel. If one was to purchase such a suite like that in the area, then it would be quite expensive. Their expenses would be taken care of living there, and any travel that they might do.
But as far as being wealthy, I don't think so.
i have never seen a broadway show in person, but i have it on my to do list before i die..... of course there are some local shows that are being done that i want to take my children to see.
i think it will be alot of fun, especially for my daughter who adores the musical,,,,,,,cats.........we rented the video of the musical cats,and i have watched most of it.
as a jw i never pursued my interest in the arts, and i let that part of me die.
Phantom is very good. Don't know what to compare it too being that I have not been to any others yet.

i know of some that pioneered because they felt they had to.
we know of many that felt awful because they were ridiculed because they were witness children and had to get baptized and face school pressure, all the while hating it.
My place of work years ago gave me tons of grief over being a witness. I was not happy about being one, but just out of school and did not know much better.
It was so bad there could have been a large lawsuit for violating my rights. Good for them I am not lawsuit happy.

Welcome to the board. I always think it is best to make an informed decision, and you can start doing that by reading many of the posts here.
The fact is that the WTS has hurt millions of people, and continue to do so with no regard. Though many of the people are good and sincere, it is governed by a group of people that have no sense of what the bible really teaches.
Please take the time to get to know some of those that are here, and read with an open mind. You will be shocked sometimes, and sad other times. But when you are done, I imagine you will be very grateful that you found this site.
if you went to someones house as a guest and they asked you to take your shoes off..would you?..would you be offended?....

didn't know where else to post this........ my daughter was invited to a neighbors house and they requested people remove their shoes!...she never had anyone ask her that before.
If someone asks, sure, I would take them off.
Usually here in the US it is because people just want to keep their carpets looking nice. I can understand that. For me however, I would not want to ask my friends to take their shoes off. I can always clean the carpets. I am not going to be so concerned about my precious carpets that I take the chance to make someone else feel uncomfortable.
did any of you hear any of the urban legends that jw's used to scare people into being deathly afraid of demons?
for example i remeber hearing that a child brough a smurf doll to a meeting and upon hearing the name jehovah uttered it got up and walked out.

I really enjoy threads such as this, for again it shows how simply stupid the whole thing was. To believe many of these urban legends seems silly when they are all put together to read. I wonder how many current witnesses would react if they were to see this list all at once.

The congregation that I grew up in was very strict. I attended 4 different halls alltogether, the first being the worst. But, ultimately they were all the same. Where I grew up there was a group of congregations nearby that were much better. Much more relaxed, not so extreme, and more sincere. Had I gone to those halls, I would have stayed around longer. Still, sooner or later I would have seen the light.
i had just got home after running some errands when i noticed 2 sisters at my door.
i got out of my car and asked if i could help them.
they started with their typical opening.
I would love to see this happen every time a JW comes to the door. I think it would have a profound effect on the organization.

of the many abuses that the society is responsible for is the unplanned retirement of so many who have given their youth and strength and have sacrificed their whole lives, even selling their homes and businesses,not going to college etc.
on the words coming out of the so-called slaves' mouth that we trusted in about an "end" that never materialized.. many are now turning more attention to their personal finances as many more face an unplanned retirement.many are hopelessly in debt and burdened with mental / emotional problems from years of pioneering and slaving until they can give no more.disappointed from an "end" that never materialized.. the wt.study for today,march 9,2003 continues this abuse when it tells the rank and file not to plan for your future retirement, just continue to come to the meetings,continue to study wt.aids,continue to put the preaching work first,forget about wasting time in the pursuit of your own personal needs, just pray, just pray.. i am one of many who has become a victim of this kind of abuse.so, for those of you who are young and still have years ahead of you,avoid having to wake up to the realization of an unplanned retirement.by all means plan for your future,do not let this abuse of enslavement of your youth ensnare you as the wt.study for today is continuing to try to do to the unwary.. how many on this forum can testfy to the years of service they gave to the society and now have to try and recover from an unplanned retirement as i am doing now.. blueblades, 60 yrs old and making up for lost time (32 yrs.awt.slave ) and involved in a new career in the health field and not planning to retire for a long time yet.
This is yet another example of how the WTS hurts people, and they offer nothing to help. I feel for those who spent so much time in the organization, and now reality hits, and something has to be done. For way too many, it is to late.
