A friend of mine and I stayed at a door once for nearly 2 hours. We enjoyed speech and debate, and during the summers from school, we would go out in service, and there were several times we would stay at the door for an hour or more.
We were only 17 at the time.

it must be about 13 years since i went out in service.
about 15 years since i went out a couple times a month, and about 18 years since i went at least once a week.. i just can't imagine going from door to door anymore.
but to think that we all did it for quite awhile.

" pretty much sums up what service is about for most witnesses... i always prefered a good conversation, even at a young age... but the pat on the back always came from making placements... especially if it was a book!.
I was usually with my parents, so they knew exactly what happened in field service.

summer 1998. my wife and i, along with 2 other couples and a single sister spent a week-end at a cottage.we had lots of fun;swimming,hiking,telling jokes,playing music,enjoying meals together.all in all a very fun week-end(except when a few had a panic attack on sunday morning and absolutely had to leave to go to the meeting).anyways the rest of us cleaned up and went back to town for lunch.. fast-forward 6 years-summer 2004.
6 of those 7 are now inactive(the 7th might be,i'm not sure),2 are disfellowshipped,one couple is divorced,the other couple are having serious marital problems(separated for a while),the single sister got married and is now living a life of hell(married to a complete power-hungry freak).the only couple still together are my wife and i,me struggling to fade away from the jw's and her struggling to do more for the "truth".. anyways,my wife and i were thinking about that week-end at the cottage and saying how we could never be us 7 again there to enjoy another week-end like that.and to think,jw's are supposed to be the happiest people,you'd think this would have become an annual thing,not people leaving each other or just becoming more miserable as the years pass us by.. thought you might find this story interesting,and if you think about it,how many jw's can tell a similar story?
Life can be difficult enough, without having the pressure of being a witnesses added to it.
Too many times the only reasons a group of people as mentioned won't get together again is simply because of the way each feels about the WTS, either pro or against.

can you be disfellowshiped for reading crisis of conscience?
is that why some have read it in the library out of sight of other witnesses and elders themselves read it in secrecy?.
It also might depend on the congregation you attend, and what the elders in that hall would do. I was in a hall that in my opinion would absolutely df you for reading it, unless maybe you begged for forgiveness.
The book is considered prime apostate material, and reading it would not go unpunished.

presen economic situation for newspaper is not bright, they include the new york times, boston globe international, herald tribune gannett co., (100 newspapers including usa today), ew scripps (21 newspapers) dow jones & co./the wall street journal.
I will read the newspaper from time to time. But the latest news is always from the internet, which I enjoy more.

despite being threatened by terrorists, iraq's voter turnout was much greater than the last us voter turnout!
i'd say it was a far greater success than expected!

Yes, the vast majority of the soldiers talked about the good that was happening there. They talk about how just a few are causing all the problems that are reported on tv. Many of the Iraqi's are very happy, very grateful of what the US is doing there. I have talked to several who were making schools for the children. Tales of Iraqi people crying of happiness. Some Iraqi people are very happy, but nervous to show it, or talk about it. Remember, you rebel against the government before, and you died. Hard for some of them to openly show their gratitude.
The soldiers of course are nervous, but their attitudes for the most part are upbeat and positive.
Quite a few soldiers told me how disgusted they were about the media. Yes, some bad stuff going on, no doubt. But the lack of stories talking about the good going on. Perhaps that just doesn't make good television.

Hopefully, this voting system works for the Iraqi people.
Doesn't matter if the % of those voting is high or low, there will be those on both sides complaining. I would love to hear a high turnout all considering, both for the Iraqi people, and to hear how the media spins it.
Interesting side point though: I live in a military city, San Diego. I run into many, many American soldiers, who have come back from Iraq. Each one of them I ask how it really is. 95% of them says the media is not accurate. Yes, any American soldier who dies, sucks, but they are saying that the good far outweighs the bad there.
Makes one think. They are there, they see it first hand. We are not. No doubt we are not hearing the complete story from the media.
