Fallacy of the "Light gets brighter" Teaching

) a better understanding.

The WT teaches that the changes in doctrine and their understanding of the scriptures over the years is because as we get nearer the end of this system the "light gets brighter" or God allows(?) a better understanding. This is based off the scripture Proverbs 4:18 which states

1 8 But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.

As a witness I never questioned this, but when reading what was written here I now believe that it is dishonest to base this teaching off of this scripture. Especially since the very next verse says

19 The way of the wicked ones is like the gloom; they have not known at what they keep stumbling.

Now wouldn't it be reasonable that mis-interpretations would be likened to stumbling and then those making those wrong interpretations would be likened to the "wicked ones" of verse 19.

You can't take one verse without the other.

when a jw says they read the whole bible, or they try to in a year do they really mean they read the 'study in scriptures' book?

or are they actually reading the nwt?

Wow carla, Studies in the Scriptures......Most witnesses haven't even seen one and even less have touched one and even less have read one.

That spiritual food is so old that it is now spiritual jerky.

The bible, I know some who have read it i a year, it is possible. Doesn't mean they get anything out of it more than what they are told it says.

I tried once but got distracted because of lifes little problems, if you miss a day here and a couple of days there you quickly get so far behind that you will not make your goal.

i told my wife today that i have no desire to live in paradise where my backyard has piles of elephant and lion crap to step in.. i also told her that i am tired of being around people who are hoping for god to hurry up and destroy 99.9% of the worlds.

population including our children and grandchildren because they don't want to sit in meetings and learn how god.

i have been discussing things with a friend of mine and i made the statement that more teachings were changed than were kept the same.. he disagrees that there were numerous changes.

just a few minor adjustments.. .

I have been discussing things with a friend of mine and I made the statement that more teachings were changed than were kept the same.

He disagrees that there were numerous changes. Just a few minor adjustments.

I appreciate the anecdotal comments about "proof changes" but I am more interested in compiling a complete (or near complete) body of teachings and changes.

For me it has not been the individual changes that ever bothered me because I have no problem with small mistakes. On top of the chronology being wrong it was the numerous almost seasonal changes in teachings and bible understandings which made the biggest impression on me.

My Wife Just Left Me Because of the Evil Watchtower

this is very difficult to write because i am crying.

i am normally not the kind of person you will ever see cry because things don't affect me that much but this has got to be the hardest things i have ever went through.. i just got through discussing with my wife my feelings.

i guess it has been hard to hid some of the things that i have felt since i have learned that many of the wt teachings are false.

Thanks everyone AGAIN, Drew, thanks that is pretty much what I was thinking but you put it much better.

As an update she is trying to consider if she can handle comming back...But it looks grim. We will see.

cyrus, I don't know anyone on her who really got ANTI-Her. Besides I would not suggest it because she is very sweet, one of the best 10 people I have ever met in my life. If she does anything to hurt me or anyone for that matter, it is never intentional(sp?). She is a true sweetheart. Oh and thanks for letting us know you were good in bed, that really helped!

My Wife Just Left Me Because of the Evil Watchtower

For those of you who have asked I am ok. Not great but I will manage.

The expression of my feelings and thoughts to her were not of my choosing.

It was a PMS trip which got her to leave initally. Then a trusted friend (i don't blame him, he had good intentions) mentioned that I had doubts.

To a certain point she says she suspected, I am not one who hides his true feelings very well, I guess.

My intention was to write the WT with my concerns and get responses from them before I mentioned it to her.

So much for that.

I am maintaining that I have doubts but she thinks that the demons are in our house and wants me to burn my Vines, Strongs and the like.

Very wierd.
