PROTESTS AT WATCHTOWER CONVENTIONS
by Lawrence Hughes indear friends,.
as you may know, the watchtower society takes great pride in its district conventions.
please contact me if you can attend any of these protests.. there is no reason why every district convention in the world could not have a protest and receive media coverage to expose the watchtower society.

The Christian Onslaught
by satinka in*sigh* i have been noticing lately there are a number of groups of "christians" signing up as members of this forum, with the obvious agenda of gaining converts for their own cult-like religions.
i have been wondering things like:.
hmmm...maybe i'll try ignoring them.. thank you simon for the space to vent.. satinka.

I think if people like Lawrence Hughes want to protest at the conventions they should do so. Yes, it will probably not help any active Witnesses leave the organization but maybe it will help some people by keeping them out of this cult to begin with. Sometimes people bring those they are studying with to these conventions and sometimes the news media does a story on them.
Also, I am sure for Lawrence protesting must have a theraputic effect, helping him with his grief over loosing his daughter. who here would not want to do something, ANYTHING they could to bring attention to this cult and its deadly policies if it were thier daughter who had died? I have a daugher, I can understand WHY lawrence does what he does.
What I have a problem with is people like Rick calling others cowards because they maintan a differing opinion than he does on the subject.
And if Rick is going to continue to act like a BUFFOON, he better learn how to spell the word.

Sex at 14?
by headisspinning inhello all.... some of you have been following our story from the beginning - and even those of you who haven't should be able to relate to my quandary.... last week my 14 year old son told me he no longer wants to be a jw.
we laboured over telling his jw dad all week.
well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

This is a big trend today. I have several nephews that started having sex at 14. And recently my son who is 16 1/2 so a little older, told me he lost his virginity recently to his 18 year old girlfriend! I was dumstruck. I didn't even know he was dating this girl. I thought they were just friends.
These kids are growing up too fast they are over sexualized by the modern music and movies. That is my opinion. But, like someone said what do you do when the horse already left the stables?
Both my hubby and I had talks with him. We worked very hard at not making him feel shame for doing something quite normal as sex. We did talk to him about the risks and the responsiblities that come with being sexually active and YES we supplied him with condoms galore!
I hate to say it but I am thankful shortly after this happened, his girlfriend and he parted ways. I don't think my son was ready for a grown up commitment. Right now he is single and I am glad about that. He is my BABY! My youngest and boy is he growing up too fast.
I am glad though that I am out of the Tower, can you imagine the repercussions that would have followed my boy over this?
I Hope everything works out for everyone dealing with this issue. We can only guide our kids, hope they make the right choices and be there to support and love them no matter what happens. Peace, Lilly

I don't understand why Rick of all people keeps calling others "moral cowards?"
Rick you have claimed several times on this forum and on your conference calls that you are attacked for no reason by people on this forum and that you NEVER resort to the same line of name calling that they do to you. But here you are on this thread calling names.
Lawrence is a big boy, let him defend himself. I do agree with Rick that people shouldn't be harsh with Lawrence for God's sake the man lost his lovely daugther due to the WT's policies. But I don't like the way you go about things Rick calling people names to stir the pot and then pretending that you have NO IDEA why people are upset at you?
Stop making all these thread about YOU, and join in the conversation like an adult will you?

An in depth examination of THE PYRAMID nonsense of C.T.Russell
by Terry inin ancient times the easiest way to measure things was to use the most convenient measuring tools available that anybody could afford to own: your own body parts!.
yes, you could use your own foot to measure "feet".. .
you could use the width of your thumb to measure an inch (call it by whatever name you like.).

I'm torn between thinking Russell was a naif and an utterly sincere person of faith who was a man of his times.......and thinking that he crossed
a line somewhere and became self-aware.
Self-aware? Yes, at some point he KNEW or realized that part of what he taught was bunkum.
From that point forward he became intellectually dishonest to the point of fraud.
I am with you Terry on this.

Welcome to the board!
It is so hard for you single parents, I give you a lot of credit. Yes the elders are controlling, it is all about looking good on paper, they are OBSESSED with numbers so are always asking for field service slips. The thing is the CO gets down their necks if the numbers are "low".
I remember when I studied with an elder and his wife, they told me and hubby there is not requirement for field service as far as how often and that is was up to the individual. The word they used was "voluntary", YEAH RIGHT! I pioneered for years but then my numbers went low due to an illness and I got calls all the time. I brought up that it was supposed to be voluntary so how the heck do we have a required amount of hours? Doesn't Jehovah know thats ALL I can do? That ususally shut them up.
Glad you are working hard to take care of your child. That is the most important thing. You are providing for your own, the way the bible says. Have you read crisis of conscience yet by Ray Franz? I would highly recomend it! Then you will see the elders are not appointed by Jehovah but are just mere men running a religion. Any power the organization has over you will be gone after reading that book, I promise you that.
Someone mentioned the welfare system? What used to bother me was how the "friends" always put down the world but yet had no trouble going out collecting welfare, foodstamps, and other assistance from the worldly governments. Some of which all the worldly tax payers help to pay for.
When I was ill for 3 years and could not work, I never collected disability although I could have because I worked to pay into that fund. But since my hubby made enough to support me and the family without my income, and I knew I would return to work someday, I left the money alone. My thinking was it would be there for someone who needed it more. But most witnesses I knew had no problems taking a handout, some who didn't even really need it and could have gotten by. So much for Jehovah will provide!
Good luck with your endeavers, you will find lots of support here. Nice to "meet" you. Peace, Lilly

Charlie,
Your comment made me laugh because a few weeks ago I got flipped off by an elderly man! LOL, he was like 80 and he gave me the finger. Why? because I wouldn't let him in my lane (sorry I was late for work did not want to crawl behind him) Anyway even the elderly are Massholes here.
