When the ONLY choices are take blood/ get disfellowshipped, and don't take blood/possible die/but remain a witness, then that is really NO CHOICE at all!
A real PERSONAL CHOICE would be one that is FREE of any reprecussions from the WT.

a court order granted today to allow the coombe hospital give a baby a blood transfusion against the wishes of her parents underscores the need for more discussions to take place between hospital staff and patients, says a dublin branch of jehovahs witnesses.. harry homan, from the south dublin hospital liaison committee said that the issue highlighted the relationship between hospital staff and jehovahs witness patients.. he said, however, that there is already healthy discussions happening across the country.. the parents in this case are very happy with the hospital and the care being give to their baby, homan told thejournal.ie.. there is an excellent relationship between the parents and staff and the child is receiving the best of care.. he added that a blood transfusion will only be given to the premature baby as a last resort.. at the moment, she is doing well, said homan.. rte reports that the transfusion will be given to the baby if her condition deteriorates and it is necessary to save her life.. hospitals are acutely aware of the dangers associated with blood transfusions, claimed homan, adding that it is in everyones best interests to seek alternatives.. he said the position of jehovahs witnesses is perfectly clear on the matter of blood transfusions.. we do refuse transfusions, he said.

I not defending Rick but Mental illness is RAMPANT in the organization. Studies have been done proving that the rate of mental illness as a JW was much higher than other focus groups.
The STRESS of being a JW pushes many over the edge and the custom of the WT to tell people to "wait on Jehovah" or "pray more" instead of seeking mental help just compounds the problem further.
Police need to be trained to handle these situations better that is for sure. But if their lives are threatened, they have to shoot. Its unfortunate for the family of this tortured soul. I just hope the hubby can get over the guilt he may have for calling the police in the first place. But perhaps if he had not, the lady would have killed her stepson for sure.
This is a sad story indeed.

summer is very busy at my job, lots of ot, which is good because winter is slow and i barely get my f/t hours.
anyway, i had to post this to see if anyone has seen a similiar situation in their congregation.. i drive a lot for work, do home visits for a local visiting nurse association.

I brought this up because there are literally dozens of liquor stores in the area that this couple lives in. They live in my neighborhood and we practically have a liquor store on every corner. But yet I spotted them several towns a way and buying a HUGE amount of booze. This seemed suspicious to me.
Also because the hall they attend has always been loaded with problem drinkers. I attended there for 10 years myself. (not a big drinker though)
I wondered if anyone else knew of Witnesses that traveled to other areas to buy their booze or if perhaps you did the same thing so no one was in your business?

Hi Falcon,
I used to attend the same kh as this couple and we had a special needs talk about drinking too much at least twice a year. They used to live down the street from me and one day I stopped by unannounced just to say hello at like 2pm and they were sitting in their robes in the living room with two bottles of wine (one each I guess) drinking away.
I've also had many "friends" push booze on me at parties but since I had to drive home with two young kids, I always declined as did my hubby.
I am not against drinking, I like some wine too once in a while but I did see many over indulge in it. I agree that is one vice that many in the kh have, that and taking antidepressants. But really could we blame them? Being a witness is so repressive and suffocating, you need something to numb yourself.

Hi guys, been a while since I've posted. Summer is VERY busy at my job, lots of OT, which is good because winter is SLOW and I barely get my f/t hours. Anyway, I HAD to post this to see if anyone has seen a similiar situation in their congregation.
I drive a lot for work, do home visits for a local visiting nurse association. I was about three towns away from my local area when I see an elder and his wife that attend the kh near my home (less than 1/4 mile from my house). These people do not work in the area I see them in and really would not know many people there so I am like hmmmm, wonder why this elder and his wife are here. I spotted them in a local shopping center getting out of their car........I was parked there taking a lunch break so I wait and see where they are headed.
Anyway, they go right into that towns local liquer store. I am still in parking lot when they come out with LOADS of booze in brown paper bags piled into a shopping cart and pack the booze into their cars! So I am thinking, could they be shopping for booze here so they are not seen by members of their congregation?

All the WT's dramas are stupid, they are not based in reality at all. Thanks for posting this. There is NO WAY that anyone can voluntarily cut their work hours in this economy and still have a job! Many people are doing double duty as it is at work and trying not to make any waves because they need their jobs so badly. Peace, Lilly

This is malpractice for sure! Even though she should have taken blood, but she should have not been in that situation in the first place if the Dr. follwed correct procedure. Very sad.......Lil
