Thanks for your post. You are right that not only christians display good morals. I made that clear in many posts. Most of the bad done to me in my life has been by so-called Christians.

I opologize if I gave that impression. I only used Galatians for jw from the Christian perspective because she claims to be one but is not following the bible advice found there.

But, never did I want to imply that only Christians have these good qualities. Many who are not, and do not profess holy spirit also have them. You are right.

I find your comment that somehow I am still indoctrinated by the WT insulting! You don't know all my experiences. I left the Roman Catholic Church at age 12 Because I did not believe in the Trinity. The WT has nothing to do with it at all. One of the reasons I studied with the JWs was because we had this belief in common. Believe it or not Jim, MANY christians do not believe this teaching.

Many here have given good responses but you are hell bent on proving the trinity. In another thread you said it was not essential for our salvation, but in this thread you are saying it is important to view the holy spirit as a person. Which one is it? If we say it is a person, we must accept the trinity. Many of us do not accept that. Like greendawn said, there are many scriptures in the NT that refute this teaching.

I thought I made good points. You have no proof either way as to what the early bible writers were trying to prove by writing in the first person in that one verse. It is a non essential issue.

I was absolutely correct when I said no one will be able to satisfy you with an answer. You want a certain answer which is that everyone agrees with you. You want us to say, "oh my God, you are right, I now believe the holy spirit must be a person". Well, you aint getting it from me. I have refuted this belief since I was 12, I will be 37 on May 14th. No WT org. nor Catholic Church, Nor family pressure has been able to change my view.

You are the one acting like you are indoctrinated because you are trying to prove you are right and we all are wrong. If it is not essential, in the spirit of love, why do you not let it go and thank people for their responses and just agree to disagree?

To all who responded, you gave some great responses. But as our friend Jim said, people will believe what they want. And some people cannot let things go.

Gods organisation here on Earth

ok so we all know that the faithful and discrete slave class claim to be gods organisation here on earth and that they claim that a god of order would have an organisation to organise his followers but can anyone pull a scripture of of their hat that proves that god doesn't need an organisation here on earth?

John chapter 4.

19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."

21 Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Jesus was saying if you worship in truth (he is truth) it does not matter where you do it because God is a spirit and resides everywhere. Paul elaborates on this in acts:

Acts 17:24
"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.

Where is Jesus Spirit?

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them

True christians are now united by holy spirit only and where two or three gather in Christ's name, he is there. No special building or organization is necesary. Hope this helps. God bless!

there was a post in the past that listed ray franz as the "king of the apostates" to flip the script who would you nominate as the reigning "queen of the apostates"?

my nominee would go to joan cetnar.

but to be honest joan is such a nice person that i had the pleasure of meeting at a ex-jws convention.

I was once a true Prophet

a lot said here about fading, which is a good way for some to leave the cult under their particular circumstances.

my departure involved a 'fade' period of less than two years, pretty fast considering i went from being a locally prominent elder to being df'd for apostasy within that time period.

because my 'fall' was pretty swift and prominent, i was approached during the 'fade' ('79-'81) in one-on-one encounters by a handful of friends, mostly elders, who sincerely wanted to help me recover from my 'spiritual sickness' as they saw it.

the highest i ever got was my being considered for a ministerial servant back in fall'ish 2004. .

of course, i also started college that semester, and was given an ultimatum and now i'm here .

but anyway, when and what was your pinnacle height in the organization?

When you were a witness, did you ever wonder where the GOOD witnesses were?

i grew up in the borg and can remember feeling a disconnect with the portrayal of witness behavior in the literature and what i actually experienced.

the stories from the yearbook about people wanting to study with witnesses "thirsty for knowledge of the truth" were so different from the responses i got in the fs, where people just seemed annoyed.

the pictures of happy folk and families of all colors looking toward some ray of light, united in the love for jehoober and each other, did not square with what was going on in my congo.

I was asked twice, two years in a row to give some of my experiences at the conventions. The only thing was that they did not exactly match the WT criteria. When I objected, I was asked to "fudge" the experience to make it fit. Thanks when I knew for sure that those experinces were made up crap to try to influence people. I refused to do it. And was harrased. The elder in charge and the CO kept calling me and asking me why I wont do it and insinuating that I was hiding some sin and therefore did not want to go up on the platform and look good. I finally said to the CO, that it is because you jerks are trying to get me to lie. Well, he stopped calling.

A friend of mine, a pioneer gave an experience the same year that was TOTALLY made up. I know because her original experience was nothing like the final "edited" on. LOL

the first hall we were in 10 years, mostly elderly which was horrible for my kids. Then we changed halls and there were lots of young families with kids.

Advice for non-JW please

having visited this site on many occasions, and having been recommended to it, i am confident that it is a source of good advice from people who know about these things.

i would be grateful for any advice you can offer me.. i have been an atheist for 20+ years, but before that was a non-conformist protestant with degrees of belief varying from acceptance to enthusiasm.

my atheism resulted from research because of my (continuing) interest in the effects of religion.

I don;t want to judge anyone but it seems like their intentions are to get you to study and they may be trying to see if they could teach you the "truth", that is what they have been indoctrinated to do. They may really have good intentions by visiting you with true concern or they may be hoping it would lead to helping you convert to JWs. It is hard to tell what someones true intention is that it why I dont want to judge these people.

I will tell you as an ex JW what I tell my nieighbors. If you show any interest in them in any way, (biblical interest) they will keep coming back to talk more about the bible, etc. Usually, the JWs are hoping by showing kindness to others that they can convert you. They are required to report all this time to the elders along with other personal information about you. Such as your address, name, how much interest you are showing. If you will never have an interest in the religion it is better if you are honest up front and tell them you rather speak about other things. And if you dont want personal information about yourself given out, let them know.

Since they are your nieghbors though, you want to let them know that you hope this will in no way affect their friendship as nieghbors. Tell them that you enjoy having them as nieghbors and why. And just explain that as far as the religion aspect, you don't want to lead them on and give them false hope that you agree with them.

As far as a close friendship with you, they will probably never have one. Their close friends are always only Jehovah's Witnesses.

Let me say in closing, you seem like such a wonderful, respectful person who has only good intentions towards your nieghbors and I can only wish to have a nieghbor like you. We need more people like you in the world.
