Many mentioned JW friends or family members who are teachers...It's hard for me to conceive. I'm a teacher and we HAVE to dress up our classroom for each holiday and do activities with our students. Decorations go up for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, etc. Students birthdays must be acknowledged and celebrated in the room. I wonder how they work this out if they are JWs...it all goes against their beliefs, but IT'S PART OF OUR JOB AS TEACHERS....

The end of The Watchtower!
by Darth Yhwh ini was thinking about the wtbs this weekend as i mowed my lawn.
they have taken so much from my family in the form of money and most importantly time, that i have developed a hatred for them.. as i cut the grass, burning gasoline and contaminating the air, i realized that the watchtower is loosing ground.
fortunatly for my family my mother married a worldly man.

Darth:
Man, that's so sad...what a traumatizing experience for your son! This is why I don't agree with most of JW's beliefs at all. Most of them rob a child of childhood experiences many of us (non-JWs) take for granted. It's like, I never knew there were people out there who didn't celebrate birthdays/christmas, etc. When I found out, I was crushed. To me, celebrations are so much fun...how can they not do that?
I have to get ready for those questions to arise once my daughter reaches that age. She will not see any of her paternal family members at her birthday parties nor will they give her presents on Christmas, since they are all JWs. We plan on celebrating her birthday & Christmas in NYC with my family each year. I know one day she'll ask those questions and feel just as horrible as your son. I understand when your son says he dislikes Jehovah...who can blame him? Poor kid.

So, I guess some circuits are more picky than others.
I hope the ones that FROWN upon college education, reconsider this...It's just so unfair to the youth coming up..nowadays it's getting more and more difficult to find a job if you don't possess some sort of degree...a BA is becoming worthless as we speak...they want to see MAs and PhDs...so, if the JWs don't want their people doing remedial jobs all their lives and earning pennies...they should begin encouraging higher learning!!!

Elder's son no longer piano tuner - Dr instead!
by WingCommander ini am just sickened at the irony that befalls some people...... we all know the wtbs looks down heavily upon those wanting a "worldy" education, right?
at least, that's how everyone acted at my congregation!
i remember the talks from the platforms seathing about some young one running off to college to join satan's world and then his life ending in ruin and then he'll end up with no hope for the paradise...blah, blah, blah, blah.

Wingcommander-
Thanks for that story...very interesting. I'm sorry that you were unable to continue your education, but remember, IT'S NEVER TOO LATE! It hurts me to see that such smart people are obligated to quit school when they could very well become great doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. It's a total outrage!
My husband is 25 and I really want him to get a college education. His mother and the WTBTS were the ones that didn't allow him or his sister to continue to college. He and his sister are so smart and it's a shame that they cannot put those brains to good use.
I applaud all those JWs who have left and have opens their eyes and gotten themselves educated. It's truly an accomplishment.

Oh wow...that's nuts!
I don't think that anyone in my husband family has a college degree...(they are all JWs). I have a Master's degree and my husband is pushing me to get my PhD...Mind you, he doesn't have a degree at all...I tell him to get his butt into college and get his degree, then he asks, "what will I major in? (*he scratches his head*)...I .
It's pathetic...I personally think he'd make a great lawyer.
OH well, que sera, sera!

Yeah...Lovelylil is right!
What happens when the NEW 'internet savvy" generation starts investigating certain things on their own and begins questioning the WT...uh oh!!! Trouble!
I predict that...
JW parents will be in outrage and will have a difficult time "controlling" their kids.
JW kids will refuse to attend meetings and if they do will not pay attention or care.
Parents will resolve to abusive methods to make their kids go or else. Kids will rebel and hate their parents and their religion.
RESULT= THE END OF JWs.
It's sad, but this is what happens to extreme religions...kids these days are not easily manipulated with "boring" low tech things...so, down goes the WatchTower!

For those married to a JW
by Wendy_Warden inand they converted from the church.
as i've said before my boy friend is a jw.
for those of you who were dating a jw and they did leave the church, how did it happen?

Hey Wendy..
I'm married to a fading JW...He hasn't attended meetings in about 6 years and only goes to "Memorial" each year. Well, I've had to learn the hard way how to deal with him and his family. All I have to say to you is to EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT THIS RELIGION. It's the best way to deal with it. No matter how distant or weak they are, their beliefs are very encrusted in their minds and it's hard to get them to think for themselves. In my house, discussions on religion are avoided...but when they do come up it gets ugly. Once you are equipped with the right tools (information) you will be OK...Before I knew anything, I was often offended for being Catholic. It's not a good feeling. There were so many things that I could've said to them to offend them right back, but I chose not to for the sake of my marriage and new family. I love my husband, I fell in love with him (not his religion)...He loves me too and we are making it work. Now that I know more about his religion, I know how to defend myself in any given situation.
Good luck to you and remember, EDUCATION IS BEST!
