I went back and re-read the Bible account of Noah and the Flood. It says that God destroyed all the things living on the earth, as in mammals and birds and things that creep, or scurry, on the ground. Nowhere did it say that God destroyed the fish. God also told them to take seven pairs of all the animals which were permitted to be eaten - fish were allowed, but not taken - I would conclude this to mean because they weren't destroyed. Just my interpretation.

Do you believe Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had a son?
by winnie inafter the 'discovery' of jesus' family tomb in jerusalem, does anyone believe that jesus was married to mary and had a son called judah?.

No. He is quoted in the Bible of appointing someone to look after his mother. I would think that had he married (and had a child) he would have also mentioned them. Praise

JW Terminology
by KW13 inok guys, list the ones ya know.. the truth/truth = the truth according to jw's is their religion.
for example someone baptized as a jw is baptized in the truth, whereas someone baptized elsewhere is not.. new light/light = a better understanding of the current status quo or 'light' in general which is just knowledge, new light allows for a complete change in beliefs without exception.. god's word = mainly the bible but anything else published by the wbt tract society is also acceptable.. true christians = refers only to jehovah's witnesses or suitable examples from the bible.. apostates = anyone who has been a jehovah's witness who opposes their beliefs (not necessarily people or individuals) and shares how they feel about the watchtower bible and tract society with anyone.
a person who hasn't been a jehovah's witness but does clearly oppose their message and beliefs may also be referred to as an apostate.. experiences = stories that will upbuild and encourage jw's.

As a non, and never-been JW, but trying to become familiar with beliefs, practices, etc. so I can have an idea of the background of some of my family members, the worst is "this system of things". Just stop and count sometime how many times it is used in any publication!! It is so repetitive, so...arrogant sounding, because even JW's seem to think they're not a part of it, so annoying!! What system - a "system" implies a plan, an intelligence behind it, a sort of blueprint or regulated order to follow. And just what does "things" mean. It sounds so unintelligent, as if no one could quite think of the correct word so they just said "things". Is it a noun or a verb? I really don't like it. Praise

UN-BE-FLIPPING-LIEVABLE chance JW meeting moments ago...
by Confession inthis is trippy.... the set-up: every weekend, 45 weekends per year, a company flies me to a different city in the u.s., and has me lead group presentations to families of college-bound high school students.
we then offer to sell them our college preparation program.. a few weekends ago we were in fresno, california.
he asked which organization it was.

Do you suppose from his perspective he's saying to himself something like, "it's so bizarre, but there was just something about how that guy I spoke to. And I kept thinking about it and for some weird reason just looked his name up on whitepages.com or some other search and weird...., but there was his phone number! Who would have thought! So, I just decided to call and see what happened. It's strange, because I've had these doubts running through the back of my mind for a while now and he really confirmed what I've been thinking! It seems to be some kind of a sign...but, then I don't want to read too much into it either. But if something like that happened again, like if he called me back or something... then I'd really know!"
Just something to think about

Sorry this day is not a happy one for you. Sometimes, though, (please don't hate me!) we need to remember that we can have some control over what happens in our lives to bring us happiness. On Valentine's Day, or any other day for that matter, someone of the opposite sex is not the only possible source of making us feel loved and appreciated. Have you sent a card, flowers, candy or letter to anyone else telling them how much you care about them? This doesn't only have to be about romantic love you know. You must have co-workers you could bring in cookies. Neighbor kids you could give a card to. Friends you could call and say hello to, or cook dinner for. A widow in the neighborhood who is feeling somewhat like you. The possibilities are endless!! So, even though I don't know you, I wish you a Happy Valentine's Day - and you can know that I really care or I wouldn't have taken the time to write this to you. Praise

January 14, 2007; the most bizarre comments I have ever heard at a Hall
by MinisterAmos inmost of you have already scoped out the wt lesson for yesterday that blondie provided, but i'm going to add to it a bit and share the audience comments for the meeting.. i'm also going to share some direct-from-the-gb "new-light" that was revealed by the speaker in his discussion.....ready?.
so the wife and i are on vacation yesterday and visit a congregation located in western fl or east al; floribama as the natives call it.. the speaker began by telling us that the "happy god" isn't really happy because of the state of the world.
i forgot to ask him where that fact is found in the bible.

"If you're being persecuted you must be doing something right" - I'm sure that all the Biblical Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc.(who are, have been or will be persecuted) will be glad to know they've got the support of the JW's on this!

Christianity undergoes massive global shift
by Gadget inthis link was posted on another group i read.
i've heard a lot on here about jw's negative growth in the western world, but having huge growth in third world countries.
this book claims the same thing is happening in christianity as a whole.

Satanus, just thought you'd be interested in knowing that the message of Christianity is not always shared and a part of the charitable giving because in many countries they are aware that to do so would put the recipients in danger from the political or religious powers in their country. For instance, I had a sponsor child through World Vision in Mozambique and part of my instructions in communicating with her were to not mention God, Jesus, etc. These restrictions did not stop World Vision from sponsoring her and her community with education and medical care. They serve because God calls them to with no expectations of the recipients needing to respond with a conversion to the Christian faith.

microphone duty
by praiseband inok, for those of us non-, and never before-jw's, will someone please explain what the big deal is about having responsibility for microphones is all about?
we do use microphones in our church, but ....i mean whoever is in charge of any technology that day sets up microphones.
it could be anyone in the church, male or female, young or old, the pastor, the janitor.

OK, so I have appreciated all your answers. I wasn't really expecting nearly so much input and it has certainly shed "new light" for me on the whole mindset of what service to Jehovah seems to be all about. In our church, the various opportunities for service - anything from usher, to church Council, to greeter, to host of coffee hour, etc is seen as a way to use your God given gifts. A way to serve God by serving others. I am sure there are those who do this out of pride, not purely from a humble servant doing their part to serve the community. However, from what I have read here, this mic thing is purely pride, not just on the part of the person serving, but actually promoted that way by those who decide who gets to serve. There doesn't seem to be any assessment of each individual to see where their spiritual gifts, and there are many given by God, would best be used and developed. How very sad! We have what we call Ministry Teams of Worship and Music, Youth, Finance, Welcoming & Inviting, Stewardship, Christian Education, Property, etc. Anyone can serve on these Teams and are steered toward the Team which fits their gifts by the pastor or other Team members. Other churches call their Teams by different names or have more or less, but operate basically the same way. Many actually give people a sort of evaluation form to complete to help them determine the best area of service for them. (think e.harmony for spiritual gifts!) Well, hopefully enough people will eventually learn from people such as yourselves that they are being deceived by this organization and can discover more worthwhile ways to receive the kind of appreciation and esteem-building they so desperately seek.
