Major Changes in Watchtower Land???
by dedalus inaccording to my wife, who is reading some other discussion board, the following changes are happening in the organization, or will happen, or have happened:.
1. no more book study meetings.
instead, the book study is added to the theocratic ministry school meeting.. 2. awake is published only once a month.. 3. two versions of the watchtower: one for the public, one for the witnesses themselves.. 4. shortened sunday meetings -- 1.5 hours instead of 2.0 hours.. 5. shortened hourly requirements for pioneers (this one may not be as new as the others?)..

Goodbye to the Board
by dedalus inim leaving the board, and am compelled to announce it.
but there are a few things i want to say first -- some recollections that (perhaps incongruously) seem germane to my leave-taking of jw.com.
1) my first post was also my first thread, written in the summer of 2000 (on h2o, actually).

So, for all you fans of big fat books (like, say, Harry Potter) ...
by dedalus inwho among you is reading east of eden, oprah's book club selection?
(because, of course, reading is no fun unless there's a huge corporate media conglomerate backing you up ...).
is it just me, or do any of you think it's strange, almost disturbing, to see a bunch of people, almost entirely pre-or-post menopausal women, waving this book over their heads, screaming with the same sort of unbridled glee exhibited on, say, a drabby-housewife-makeover episode?.

Logansrun is freaking me out ...
by dedalus indude, and i apologize for saying this, but your avatar looks exactly like my father, a dub so devout he refuses to "embrace" me on the extremely rare occasions that we meet.
perhaps the resemblance isn't as severe as i think -- but shrunk down in a tiny picture, i see my father glaring at me as i sludge along with all of the other dogs on this board, returning to their vomit.
what's really strange is, i find much of what you write to be sensible.

Witnesses Shouting in the City Streets ...
by dedalus in... except it quickly developed that they weren't witnesses at all.. weekends i sometimes work at a television station in downtown hartford, ct. depressed urban area, starbucks and subways and mcdonalds scattered like dirty coins beneath towering insurance buildings.
anyway, on my breakfast break i left the station, walked down to the convention center, and across the street from wendy's i saw two young men who, at a glance, strongly resembled witnesses or mormons -- they were wearing the cookie-cutter jc penney poly-synthetic-discount-clearance suits, and held large leather bibles in their hands.
one had a dark, cropped, curly beard.

My Memorial Experience
by dedalus ini forgot all about the memorial.
(fortunately, my wife and i did not accidentally partake of any saltines or grape juice.).
so, on this year's nisen 14, i played some racquetball in the late afternoon with one of my brothers, and in the evening i had a wonderful dinner with my wife and daughter.

I'm going to be a Witness again!
by dedalus inrecently i wandered over to derrick's site, h20, just to check things out.
while casually looking around, i came across this, a description of one of the forums over there.
i've bolded the part that caught my eye:jehovah's witnesses and bible prophesy.

Disassociating myself ...
by dedalus inwell, it had to come to this eventually.. this winter my wife and daughter and i celebrated christmas with my in-laws, with whom we currently live (high school english teachers don't make much money!).
my in-laws have been inactive for about two years, and this year, they decided to celebrate the holidays.
one reason for this is that their son, who is eight, has multiple disabilities -- can't see, trouble hearing, other, quite sever, issues -- and christmas, with its presents and wrapping and loud carols and trees and wreaths is, well, a very accessible experience for him, the way, say, my kingdom ministry and the watchtower are not.. well, as a household we went all out.
