I don't understand your bitch.......first of all, if you believe that I was "Mormon bashing," my point went right over your head......second of all, as far as "knocking another's religion," well we certainly wouldn't have any of that on an ex-JW forum would we? no, you didn't go on to make remarks about the "Southern Baptists" and "Lutherans." And noone here would dream of trashing the Witnesses, would they? But, you better walk on eggshells around anyone claiming to be a Mormon, because he came here only to have a civil chat and to answer some questions......oh, but wait, he didn't actually answer any questions did he?

what qualifies jehovah's witnesses to call themselves christians?.

unlike other "bible-based" religions who believe in the divine nature of jesus;.

the watchtower bible and tract society claims that jesus christ is the savior .

I know, I know ! you should have heard him when I confronted him about it, he tried to tell me that "the nuns must've lied to my co-worker!" He couldn't even keep a straight face.....men are such dogs.......

anyway.....xander, that tract may have said "Christiandom," I can't remember the exact wording, but I did find it weird because I had never noticed that on any tracts before......kind of strange also that this was after they were caught with the "wild beast," that they should try to set themselves apart from the "great harlot...."

Lizard, I don't recall what the tract was about, I do remember that it was right around the Memorial because at first I thought that was what it was in reference too.....somebody that still attends meetings should be able to get one.....I wanted to get another one from my JW family, but they always think I'm plotting. I don't know where they get that idea.......

i think when people leave the organization, they lump it all together- jehovah- religion, organization, etc.

i am not doubtful there is a god, but just doubtful that he used the wts to be his one & only means.

tkmmorgan, I personally still struggle with the concept of "God," and even being able to define God. Sometimes it seems that "God" is a collective consciousness. Other times I feel that God is nothing more than rantings of mad men. The thing is, our thoughts are abstract, so why can't we also be. I mean, I guess I mean that maybe we don't have to necessarily come to any final conclusion regarding God. Look at kids, their minds are always a "work in progress," which is what makes kids so free. They don't worry about coming to conclusions or where they came from or where they're going. They are free. Because truth over-rides hope, we don't have to be burdened with the fear that unless we know everything it won't be so.

you know I said in my post that I could never see anyone, in reality, believing in God just because it was a safe bet. and you commented that then they would be no better than JWs. It made me realize that not only a lot of JWs do this, but in reality, a lot of people in a lot of organized religions do it. How many people hide behind some religion, like they're going to fool God and sneak into heaven, paradise earth, or somehow avoid hell, purgatory, on and on and on.......so I take back that statement, in reality, alot of people "believe" in God because it's a safe bet........

evolution is interesting....I've never actually researched it or got into it enough to make an informed decision, but my husband is very big on evolution and creation. He believes that God created man through evolution, that evolution was his plan......I often wonder what man would believe in if he carried around absolutely no "baggage" from a religious upbringing. sun gods? moon goddesses?

Bona, evidently, at least this is what a previous co-worker who was Catholic told me, the Catholics frown upon oral sex also....imagine my surprize at learning this, as my husband attended Catholic school up until high school and never once mentioned to me that I would burn in hell for doing that. imagine that........

Lizard, do Witnesses consider themselves Christians? I'm not being obnoxious, I always thought they considered themselves as such, but a few months back a Witness left a little flyer with me and I noticed that in really small print at the bottom it said something to the effect of "our organization is not a part of Christianity." I don't remember the exact wording, only that I found it both obnoxious and arrogant. oh my, what a shocker.....I wish I would've hung on to it but my two-year-old pretty much destroyed it.......I suppose it meant that they're Christians but no part of Christianity? who knows, it's hard to keep up with their changes...I personally like your "Samsonites" idea, maybe you should submit it to their suggestion box.......

quantum, I have to tell you, I'm very open-minded but I have read this thread three times and I have come to the realization that your beliefs are even too wild for me. My mother was a flower child who dabbled in Buddhism and LSD and my father was a JW so I was exposed to a very "different" belief system, but I have never heard of any belief as weird as yours.

First of all, this Joseph guy with these gold plates in some "reformed" Egyptian language and visions and prophecies about "knitting," which has two "t's" by the way, sounds like he took his LSD Church too seriously. Second of all, I thought that polygamy and LSD were both illegal, so for you to publicly advocate both with your "LSD Church" is ungodly......Thirdly, I am shocked that any of the Osmonds dropped acid and had multiple sex partners and I plan on immediately tossing all of their CDs......except maybe the White Christmas CD. (God knows that probably has drug overtones also!)

you know how it goes, someone doesn't want to give offense or get "offside" with readers, colleagues etc so they try and agree with two conflicting arguments simultaneously.

the watchtower wouldn't do that, would it?

OMG, I love that top picture nemesis! I have a few questions for the illustrators and writers though, maybe I'll send them to "readers ask...."

first question: who is going to make all these Nikes that these illustrations depict kids wearing in the "new system?" yea, that sounds like "paradise" to me, spending eternal life working in a tennis shoe factory.......

question two: why do all WTS illustrations depict people in the "new system" wearing "modern" clothes. somehow I just can't envision Noah and Abraham strutting around in Reeboks and polo shirts............

question three: the text that accompanied the first illustration says "[i]n Nazi Germany, for instance, they resolutely refused to be drawn into Hitler's murderous wars." Has this writer ever read the letter written by the "Society" to the leaders of Nazi Germany? The ass kissing was quite nauseating.......

edited yet again to ask the all-knowing WTS writers: if not yoga, will there be any aerobics? I don't know how well aerobics will go over to "theocratic" music though ...........

tkmmorgan, I remember reading Pascal's wager in a philosophy class....it is a "safe" bet, the thing is, I could never see anyone, in reality, believing in God just because it was a safe bet......If there is a "God," I believe this power would be one of sufficient enough intelligence to know if this belief existed in the heart, or merely as a forced survival mechanism.

This is what so irritates me about the Witnesses' belief system.......there are so many sincere witnesses, but there are just as many, if not more, witnesses that base their beliefs on their need to conquer their fears of growing old, and dying. (I mean, you have to hand it to the WTS with their seductive "live forever," "stay young and beautiful," "never grow old" spiel......"oh gee, no thanks, I'd rather get old and ugly and die...." ) the thing is, a lot of the witnesses become witnesses, not out of their love for God, but because they actually convince themselves that they can avoid being old, ugly, and dead.......and if they can avoid all this ugliness by just becoming enslaved to the WTS, then they will literally sell their souls and loved ones, if need be, to do just that....... ooohhhh baby, that's better than a permanent facelift!

I once read that some queen and her son had all reference to reincarnation deleted from the Bible because they believed they would lose their control over the common people if the commoners realized their fate was in their own hands. Maybe the WTS moves along the same lines.......
