March,
that blows me away that I logged on and here is this thread about Van Morrison...it's weird because less than an hour ago I was in the car and they were playing alot of old songs and "Moon Dance" came on...it was storming and dreary out and "moon dance" was this upbeat, cool kind of song...
I would be highly shocked if he was ever a witness, but you never know.....maybe witnesses coming to his door and waking him up while he was nursing a hang-over inspired him to write "Kingdom Hall."

Pedophilia -- WT Coverup?
by accuracy inthe following, from the watchtower magazine of january 1, 1997, does not support the idea that the wts is a "pedophile's paradise.
" the wts also pointedly spoke out against pedophilia over 9 years ago in the awake!
magazine of october 8, 1993. for the protection of our children, a man known to have been a child molester does not qualify for a responsible position in the congregation.

"scriptural term," "readjust the thinking"
can be found in the Bible..... -

I don't mean to be jumping in the middle of a debate, but I couldn't pass by Cyg's comment:
"I don't see anyone criticizing the church fathers for their immense volumes of biblical explanation."
you're right, noone except the Watchtower Society.....

alicia, they say that the treatment a victim receives after a rape or molestation can sometimes do as much damage as the rape itself.
the elders asking you "what you were wearing," sounds like the article in last week's "Tennessean." The elder asked the victim "what she was wearing" also. She said she'll never forget it because she was EIGHT YEARS OLD......

"J.R. Brown, a spokesman for the denomination, has said that parents are not punished by the church for going to the police first in cases of child molestation."
why does he include the word "first?" Does this mean that they are punished by the church for going to the police "after" speaking to elders?
path, I don't recall ever reading the "readjust the thinking" scripture. I recall seeing scriptures referring to "unclean thoughts" but I'm not familiar with "readjust the thinking." where can I find it so that I can read it in full context?
"...most Witnesses do not want blood and this is their choice not to have it."
I totally agree, if a Witness, including the one that will leave a child behind, decide, on his or her own accord, to die for an organization's interpretations of the Bible, that's his or her decision.
What bothers me, and the courts, are cases in which minors, and those under "undue influence," are involved. It is these cases in which the parent trys to prevent a transfusion by claiming the minor is competent to make such a decision. It is also these cases, as well as cases brought against doctors BY Witnesses, in which the courts are interested if there was any "undue influence" or if the decision was indeed, "their own."I still believe that an organization that practices any form of "readjusting the thinking," of anyone, for any reason, scriptural or not, could be described as an "undue influence."

path:
I beg to differ with you....A judge hearing a case in which a decision had to be made concerning the "mental competence" of a plaintiff or defendant, would find it quite interesting that the organization the member belonged to practiced attempts to
"readjust the thinking" of ANYONE......
for i.e., if a person's decision to refuse a transfusion was based on their OWN beliefs....As for clarification, judges do not make it to the bench by being naive.....

yes Path, I agree, that "admission" is quite interesting....
do you think maybe Mr. Semonian may have blown it by trying to speak without the presence of a WTS lawyer.
Unless he IS a lawyer, in that case they're in even bigger trouble than they originally thought. An attorney in a blood issue case, or any case in opposition to the WTS would LOVE to have this admission. and now they do,
in black and white.take that back to your boss "philosophy boy"

"readjust the thinking"
and how do they "attempt" to do that do you think......
careful Mr. Semonian, the posters here may do some "readjusting" of their own......
