Darth Tetragrammaton, that CANNOT POSSIBLY be a recent picture. No 31 year old looks like they're 17. If it is recent, then I f***ing hate you. ;)

What an eye-opener this book was. Go to this thread to read it yourself. What an amazing experience! Her tone is much like Franz' was in Crisis of Conscience: no bitterness, no recriminations, just a factual retelling of events. I wanted to get my random, stream-of-consciousness observations out into the open before I forget them, so here they are:
- Ted Jaracz is the biggest dick in the history of the universe. See Mt 24:48-51 . See also O'Brien.
- I am thinking of asking the elders in my hall whether there are any accused child molesters who attend regularly. This is a big step and will set off alarm bells, so it is not to be taken lightly. However, this single issue more than any other is more likely to be one that my still-believing wife identifies with.
- Theocratic Warfare is apparently alive and well at Brooklyn Bethel in this 21st Century, all the way to the top of the command structure.
- Why, oh God why, is the reputation of the Organization the very first number one priority of every man, woman, and child who calls themselves Jehovah's Witnesses? Even Barbara felt this way while she was still in--it's clearly some kind of institutional malaise. Why? Why isn't truth more important? Why isn't love more important?

I did a bit of "research." The term occurs hundreds of times in the Society's literature. The closest thing to a definition of the term I could find is this:
*** w57 9/1 p. 524 par. 1 Never Compromising on Christian Principles ***
TRUE Christians are governed by principles. A principle is a fundamental truth. Since truth is that which is in accordance with the actual state of things, principles essentially are statements of basic facts. The Bible contains thousands of these principles, expressly stated as in the text above. Others are deduced or found in the book of nature, as Paul wrote at Romans 1:20 (NW): God’s “invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are understood by the things made.”The article goes on to say:
*** w57 9/1 p. 524 par. 2 Never Compromising on Christian Principles ***
Some examples of principles will serve to show the part principles play in our understanding and reasoning. Here are a few: Jehovah is the Most High over all the earth. There is no God besides Jehovah. Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting. Jesus is the beginning of the creation of God. God is head over Christ. The Father is greater than Christ. The Son is subject to God. God raised up Christ from the dead. God gave Christ a higher position than before. Holy spirit is not a person. People can be filled with holy spirit. So, like, it doesn't sound like a property a person can actually have. It's more like an unassailable truth. A person can live by Christian Principles, but a person cannot have Christian Principles.

Do you think that "Armaggeddon"/Hellfire damnation" is just scare tactics?
by booker-t inmany people have come to believe that the churches, religions or the world today just use "punishment" as a form of scare tactic to get controll over people.
i am beginning to think maybe these people are right.
it is hard for me to believe that a "loving" god would destroy 6 billion people just to save a "few" people at armaggeddon.

Do you think that "Armaggeddon"/Hellfire damnation" is just scare tactics?
Do large ursine mammals employ wooded areas for defecational purposes?
It's the stick in the carrot/stick equation. Any religion that presents a stark choice between eternal reward and eternal punishment is a religion of control, power, and domination. Every religion should be evaluated by that standard. If the religion says little about an afterlife, about punishment, about rewards, but simply offers enlightenment for the current life, that's a different matter.

AS has been described as "a touch of autism," though those that suffer from it wouldn't describe it as being easy in any way. I come from a family that has many people that suffer from AS, or have tendencies in that direction. I fall into the latter category, though I don't compare my suffering or difficulties to CRR's or the members of my family in any way.
There are others on this forum that, I am convinced, also have AS. I won't name names because I don't want to offend.
AS has its difficulties but is also a gift; people with AS are capable of greatness and brilliance to a degree neurotypicals are often not. Remember the positive aspects AS brings to your life; the focus of which you are capable, the sensory pleasures--a soft blanket, peripheral vision, the minute veins in the leaf from an oak tree. Remember your organizational skills and your specialist subjects. It is likely that there are subjects or topics on which you are the most authoritative person you know--you can use that authority and those abilities to help yourself and to help others. Remember that you are capable of great love.
Remember that many others are like you. Do not give up. -

Overheard in a public library
by under_believer inwhen i was a kid, my parents (strong in the truth: father elder, mother regular pioneer) encouraged me to read.
in reality, they could hardly have held me back; i come from a long line of bookworms, including my father.

Miss_MG, no. I didn't tell them. I felt at the time that sharing that experience with them would invite greater scrutiny of my choices of reading material, which I was desperately loathe to change. And I sensed that the missionary sister wouldn't tell anyone either, perhaps out of a desire to avoid telling people that she was overstepping her boundaries and into my parent's territory. And it appears that I was right, because nobody ever said anything about it to me again.

Rubadub is still "in," like me. He has a penchant for freaky-looking avatars and forum handles that include sexual innuendo. He has a rapier wit and may possibly be undead.

I'd like to point out that the WTS uses that tactic themselves... think about how they prey on people who are having a hard time and then talk up how horrible the world is and how awful people had it when they were "worldly."
