I remember written reviews going back to at least 1980, and there was never music played in the background at any of them.
BTW they don't do them anymore either--they are now called Oral Reviews--it's just the usual Q&A session only as a review of the few months of TMS&SM sessions. As I cleverly commented to my wife when I heard the new name--at least it's better than an Anal Review.

Reading WT & Awake for X years = College Education
by under_believer inhas anybody ever heard any witnesses utter that old saying "reading the magazines for 10 years [or whatever] is equivalent to getting a college education?
" a couple of things are amusing about this.
one is its utter and complete falsehood--what a crock!

Here's some perspective on the Catholic thing.
Here's the news story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060428/en_nm/vatican_davinci_dc_3
The most important quote for me: "I hope that you all will boycott the film." Hope. A suggestion. Catholics can choose, and many will go see it, and then laugh because they know it's fiction.
Contrast this to a paraphrase from a recent (within the last couple of months) Watchtower study: "A Christian with a Bible-trained conscience would avoid movies or books containing violence, criminal acts, or sexual immorality, knowing that enjoying such entertainment would be just as bad as associating with people who do these things." -

What did your worldly friends think?
by Fleshybirdfodder inat around 19 years of age i started dating a "worlding" girl and brought her to meetings to get the elders off my back (to no avail of course... i was "marked").
needless to say word got out and some of my other friends decided to check out some of the meetings.
one of my closest friends who had been to many church services (he is a gifted musician and played organ at his church and several others) came to a theocratic ministry school/service meeting.

The best feeling in the world was at the assemblies at precisely 2 in the afternoon. Lunch was heavy in your stomach, hangover was wearing off, and the speaker was droning.... droning... droning...zzzzzzz

I always instinctively knew that it was creepy and therefore never invited anybody. I would have been mortified had they shown up.

I searched a lot and didn't find anything. I have heard it from Witnesses in informal conversation and also mentioned by speakers from the platform, but I don't believe it's something the Society says themselves.

The most solid statement from Brooklyn I can find on the subject:
*** g01 9/8 p. 13 How You Can Help ***
If your parents suspect that you are suffering from clinical depression, they may take you to a physician who is experienced in treating the disorder. This is a wise step, for often depression can be greatly relieved with treatment, where this is available. For example, when a chemical imbalance is involved, an antidepressant might be prescribed. If this is true in your case, do not feel ashamed of taking medication. It simply restores your body chemistry to its proper balance, and this can be the key to helping you regain a measure of joy and stability in your life.
However there are still old-timers that look at it as "popping pills" and who look down on people who take them. It depends on your area and the locals. -

That paragraph sums up Witness teaching for many years now. And it's such unsubstantiated citationless unscriptural bullshit speculation, too. They don't quote a single scripture in there, because it's all made-up fairyland garbage without any scriptural backing.
