  recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.

  i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.

  hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.

  Shocking Announcement: Society feels Armaggedon coming this year?

  a rumor alert indeed, but it could be related to the distribution of kingdom news no.37, "false religions end is near.".

  the following is posted from e-watchman's forum.. make of it what you will, but in light of all the rhetoric about "deliverance at hand" and "independent thinking", nothing would surprise me anymore.. http://e-jehovahs-witnesses.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1502&st=0 we posted about an announcement it was only local to our cong.

  however we have found out that there is going to be an announcement sometime in september and it is supposed to be shocking.

  i spoke with a well placed, highly responsible brother some weeks ago, who didn't care for my opinions about corruption "from the.

  bottom all the way to the top" in the organization.

  he defended the society against every accusation i made but was stopped short by one.

  i went to the bank today, just to change 50$ canadian to us money.. they needed my name, address, bank number and so on....... i told them, why do you need all this information?.

  i remember not many years ago, where i could have changed 1000$ canadian for us money and no questions asked.. it just seems that big brother is everywhere and wants to know everything you do.. i was just wondering if i'm the only one being bothered by this.. sarcastically, i asked the girl at the bank, "if i changed 1 dollar for 4 quarters, would you have asked me all those questions...... .

  Interesting that you'd say that, Mary.
  I was once acquainted with an elder who believed that *we* were Armageddon, that the Witnesses themselves and their preaching work _was_ Armageddon. Supposedly he wrote the Society and then they wrote him back CONFIRMING IT! Everyone was like WTF?!?! He had this letter, he carried it in his breast pocket everywhere he went, and I am not making this up. He'd trot it out all the time at meetings for field service during the time when I was pioneering. I never read it personally.
  He's not an elder anymore, and the rumor was that it was because he was spreading this teaching (that supposedly was confirmed by the Society.)
  So I don't know what to make of that, but let the story at least illustrate that it's eminently possible that such an interpretation is possible (what interpretation isn't?) and that there would of course be support for whatever they wanted to say.
