> Funny, there are not too many atheists on Death Row.
That's because atheists are less likely to commit crimes than creduloids.

Kick the tires and light the fire
by PopeOfEruke indoes anyone check the tdcj death row homepage?
it's eerily addictive..... http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/deathrow.htm.
i noticed they executed richard hinojosa a couple of weeks ago, found this news report.. he indicated to the prison warden that he had finished his statement, telling him, "kick the tires and light the fire.

Rex, it sounds to me like you traded one set of jargon for another.
It's amazing to me that anyone could be religious again after being a Witness--were you a convert, or were you born and raised in? -

What do the endless debates with ThirdWitness etc prove?
by jwfacts inthere are currently long debates going on with 3w about the subtle meaning of words and how they are supposed to prove the wts has the correct doctrine.
even as a jw i always noticed that it was impossible to prove a doctrine to people in the field.
the fact that 2 christians can discuss topics endlessly without any conclusion shows me that god can not possibly be going to destroy every non jw simply because they could not be convinced of watchtower doctrine.. the bible says very little about doctrine, besides pauls discussions to show jesus is our ransomer and means for everlasting heavenly life.

zagor, an even better question for your elder would be: If someone told you that you didn't have a right to tell your young kids what to do, and that they only obeyed you because you fed them and gave them toys, would you then
1) give them a horrible illness (imperfection)
2) throw them out into the back yard in the middle of winter (expulsion from the garden)
3) only speak to them via cryptic written notes which are easily misunderstood or lost (the Bible)
4) and then shoot them in the back of then head when then pooped on your flower bed (Armageddon)? -

Earthquakes and rumors of war or whatever ;o)
by Hellrider ini was so inspired by the ridicolousness of thirdwitnoid in that other thread ("the gentile times reconsidered again...but this time i am using the bible"), in which he actually dared bring up the old "increase in earthquakes"-fairytale from the wt and asleep.
it really had nothing to do in that thread, which was about 607 vs 587 (oh no, not that again.... datelocationdeathsmagnitude.

Hello thirdwitness the apostate dabbler, did you not see the Society's latest word on earthquakes, quoted in this very thread? It said:
*****
Note, though, that the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy does not require an increase in the number or power of earthquakes. All Jesus said was that there would be great earthquakes in one place after another. Furthermore, he stated that these events would mark the "beginning of pangs of distress." (Matthew 24:8) Distress is measured, not by the number of earthquakes or how they rate on the Richter scale, but by the effect that they have upon people.
*****
Fact: There have always been earthquakes in one place after another. Not even the Society denies this. Nor should you.
They now seem to be interpreting that the amount of distress caused by the earthquakes is what makes them a prophetic sign. Then they proceed to say that earthquakes have left millions dead or homeless, and the shoddy construction practices in the Third World, signs of humans being "self-centered, lovers of money", and "callous" (they had to go to the Amplified Bible for that particular out-of-context citation) are a major reason why.
So are you seriously contending that it's not the number of earthquakes in one place after another, but the amount of human misery that they cause (precipitated by the fact that humans are now somehow shittier than they used to be before 1914), that indicates the end times? Because the account in Matthew doesn't say that.
Next week, if the Society changes the interpretation back to an actual increase in earthquakes, will you change your thinking back to that? -

That is an excellent idea. Changing your longtime avatar out of respect. You could switch to a diamond...
In any case, I too was sad the day the music died. Sid had been killing me softly for so long, so long. What a tragic, fascinating life. Would that he could have found redemption in love, sobriety, and even religion, like Johnny Cash.
Can you imagine composing and being in the process of recording Shine On You Crazy Diamond... and Syd Barret, whom you haven't seen for years, walks in: Fat, eyebrowless... and sits there listening to you sing about him? How could you continue? Every time I hear that story it gives me goosebumps. The wall's Pink IS Syd. -

Mouthy, it appears that your quitting the forum on July 11 was largely hypothetical. Good to see that you're still posting. :)

Dude Rex what is wild about that is that several threads about it were made at the time, and several people were wondering if you had noticed. But you never answered, and it's funny to know that you just now are finding out. :)

Beware of higher criticism
by under_believer inanybody notice how the society decries the study of higher criticism (literary criticism of the bible) and yet must resort to it themselves in the all scriptures inspired book, where they are forced to admit that the first three gospels share a common source or are based on one another?
.
double standards are awesome.
