I was just curious if anyone still has their old call book(s); I have no clue what happened to mine. Someone was talking about bloodguilt on here recently, which made me think of return visits and how I used to feel panicked about being bloodguilty if I did not get back to them.

Elders and shepherding calls
by sspo infor all the years you were in the borg, i was wondering how many of you received a friendly shepherding call from the elders?
.
that was part of their responsibility as elders but in over 30 years i never received one and i found that was the case with many in the cong.. did you regularly receive a visit?

When my sister and I were growing up it was a yearly event to get a "sheperding call". I know I speak for her also when I say that we dreaded it. After awhile the visits seemed to taper off. I seem to remember something about how the society didn't want them to be called "sheperding calls" and the families or individuals had to request that the elders make a visit. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Sexual Details in Disfellowshipping hearing?
by Medic!? ini couldn't find if this was a previous topic, so i apologize in advance if it has been posted.. i am 28 years old, i have been df'd for 7-8 of those.
my parents were converted when i was 2 years old by the whole family on my mother's side.
however, about 5-10 years into it, all of that side of the family were df'd or da'd because they wanted to have sex with multiple people or smoke, drink, gamble, cuss, or whatever else they wanted.

A friend of mine went through that type of grilling when she "confessed" her supposed "transgretions" to the elders. They wanted to know where his hand was, how long was it there, what were they wearing, was it intentional etc. I was schocked when she told me what kind of sick questioning they put her through. It immediatley sent up a red flag in my mind. It amazes me that she still thinks it was all part of the organizations loving arrangement to help people "come back to Jehovah".

JW dress fads
by rassillon ini was just looking at the revelation book and some of the illustrations reminded me of some of the dress fads which i have seen growing up as a jw.
what fads did you see at the halls?.
the one that got me to thinking was the sun dress on page 51. .

At the hall I went to everyone seemed to pride themselves on being as "thrifty" (cheap) as possible. Which ment garage sales and goodwill for the majority. I would always see outdated ugly 80's styles like drop-waist floral dresses and of course the jackets with the patches on the elbows mentioned earlier. ICK!

Do You Know What I Hated About Service?
by Legolas inwell other then going out that is....lol...i was the one, i would say 8 times out of 10, that i was stuck talking to the men!
.
i have others but i will leave them for you to list....now go ahead and list what you hated!

So many things I hated about service.....
I hated the cold, snow, and rain. I always found myself wondering why the hell we were out in a blizzard or 95 degree heat when any sane person was inside where its warm or air conditioned.
I hated being out with this one particular "pioneer sister" whose favorite question to ask me was "when are you going to get baptized?".
I hated it when my mom aux. pioneered and dragged me with her in the AM since I had PM kindergarten. I would have to change into my school clothes in the back of Br. Pioneer's conversion van. It was soo embarrassing;even though I was just a little kid.
The highlight of the day was always "break" and there were some die-hard door knockers who would try to get out of taking one.The nerve! My persistant questioning about "when are we going on break" would usually win out. Some of the adults would think it was cute and say "oh do you want to go McDonalds honey" ,but there were those that scowled and said that "we must slave for Jehovah first".
That about covers it I think

I agree with you megsmomma. The lengthy explanation about "Crisis of Conscience" is a dead give away.

It was a thought that occured to me when I drove by the KH tonight. Its clearly visible from a very busy street and I thought lights and decorations might be just the thing it needed.

Here's my latest poem
by Abandoned ini worked this morning and on my break i felt inspired.
let me know what you think.. the real life.
terrified of friendship's bite,.

They are just a cult and I can't wait to be completely away from it, but for right now I'm still living at home with my parents who are active JWs. I used to write a little poetry and it was very theraputic, but its hard to keep a journal or something like that around when you think someone might see it, so I understand what you mean.

Hi Abandoned,
I really enjoyed reading your poetry! I can especially identify with the verse:
My years spent with the bible,
I wish I could reclaim
All those moments wasted;
For all I know is blame. We have all gone through a lot because of the borg, remember we are all here for you!
