I read somewhere that if all human beings were to disappear from the earth today, nature would continue on much the same. If insects were to disappear, life on earth would be completely disrupted. Plant life would be affected because it relies on insects for pollination. Many birds species would go extinct and most mammals. The humbling truth is that we need insects to survive, but they don't need us.

***It's all part of their calamity howling composite sign soup.***
Exactly, Dismembered. That's one of the things about JWs that annoys me the most. Everything that happens is a "sign" of something. War in the Middle East or coyotes eating the family pet -- they're all signs of the "end." -

What if caffeine was banned for JWs?
by undercover ina post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).
of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.
the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.

Is America one big cult?
by barry indont get me wrong im not a yanky basher like some we know but when visiting my dad the other day got me thinking when he played a dvd he had.. the dvd was of a concert of religious music by the assembly of god and the sdas most of the program was very good with excellent prerformers and uplifting music.
i thought the sdas in the states looked like they were being influenced by the more charasmatic a of g people because many were raising there hands like the aof g do.. there was nothing too unusual until about two thirds through when some marines marched in with the yanky flag with a marine either side complete with rifle .
the remainder of the concert was dedicated to nationalistic hyms of which i cant recall the titles.

I'm glad you made the disclaimer that you're not a "yanky" basher. Otherwise, I might have thought that judging an entire nation based on a DVD, or using such terms as "nationalistic hymns," "little yanky flags," and "cult" would have a perjorative slant.
I wonder what you say when you are "yanky" bashing. -

How would the Governing Body treat Jesus if he were on earth today?
by unbrainwashed in.
they would criticize him for "independent thinking" and eventually disfellowship him for apostasy for not going along with their religious system and doctrines, don't you think?.
oh wait...that's kind of like what the sanhedrin did to him 2,000 years ago..

After Jesus got through overturning all the money-counting tables at Bethel, the gb would have him arrested, tried and convicted. They wouldn't be able to execute him, but he would be labeled apostate and "dead" to the r&f.

Once I decided to leave, the only thought that lingered was, why did I take so long??? -

Are you happier out of the org?
by dobbie inhi everyone i was just wondering if those of you that have left the org for whatever reason, have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?probably a daft question but i tried to talk to a friend about how i was feeling about a few things and why i don't go to meetings and she said would i really be any happier out than in?it just got me thinking about why i joined in the first place, because i was lonely and down, although i still am several years later it seems!have you found life better on the outside?did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?when i try to explain what i find hard in the religion they can always say something back that then makes me think i was wrong in the first place and it is the truth after all - aagh!

***have found your'e much happier than when you were in it?***
Freedom usually is more conducive to happiness than imprisonment.
***Have you found life better on the outside?***
Let me see, selling magazines, following countless rules, and attending boring meetings vs. college education, career, holidays, freedom of choice. Yes, the "outside" is just a tad better.
***Did you feel a sense of freedom or was it really hard to adjust?***
It was the sense of freedom that was hard to adjust to, after years of being told what to do. But it was well worth the effort. -

It is all how you look at it isn't it
by troubled mind inperspective.......example: my in laws look at the "truth" as a wonderful thing that changed their lives.
mother in law was married at 14 to an abusive drinker she was a child having children .
she studied and was abused by him more because of his possesiveness.

troubled mind,
***What made their lives better made mine a living hell.***
I totally agree. It all depends on your perspective. Compared to the childhood and young adulthood my mother had (abusive father, WWII [she is European], terrible treatment by in-laws, illness), the JWs seemed like a calm port in the storm. For me, being a JW from my early teens to my early 20s was a searing experience. -

I can see how you made that mistake--both are sales pitches. Hope yours was successful.
